| [Update] Quintessential Media Player Beta DR 111
QMP - Back and Better!
After a long hiatus, a new QMP beta version has been produced. For those new to QMP, consider it QCD with an integrated Media Library plug-in. However it is much more than that. QMP includes all the strengths of QCD, with the additions of more capabilities for plug-ins, more skinning capabilities, and more powerful features for users. QMP still uses QCD's core software so all existing plug-ins and skins will work with QMP (with the exception of Library plug-ins).
Users of previous QMP Betas It is strongly recommended you back-up previous installations of QMP if you wish to preserve your data.
Gracenote Features - Evaluation For BETA Period Only The Gracenote features found in previous QMP betas have been reactivated for new users.
During the beta period only, QMP will include two features, Gracenote MusicIDSM and Gracenote PlaylistSM. Gracenote MusicIDSM is a combination of recognition technologies for identifying CDs and digital music files and delivering metadata such as song titles, artist, genres, source albums, etc. This technology will not only help identify files in your collection, but it will also help normalize all the metadata. Gracenote PlaylistSM is an advanced automatic playlist generation and management system.
Both of these Gracenote technologies included in QMP are new versions, still in beta. Quinnware has agreed to work with Gracenote to help them test these new versions of their products because we think they are really cool, and add a lot to the new Media Library in QMP.
Please understand that Gracenote digital file recognition and automatic playlisting features will only be available in QMP while it is in beta. After the beta period, these Gracenote features will no longer function and you will be required to download a new version of QMP. Gracenote's CD recognition technology will remain a part of QMP, along with all other features available in the beta versions. The data retrieved from the Gracenote Media Recognition Service will remain intact even after the beta period ends.

| Did they finally get it to stream other things than Shoutcast? That's about the only types of audio streams I can get it to do. I have tried a few streams that will play great in WMP, but they won't work with QMP. It's a nice player for many things, but doesn't seem good for anything other than streaming Shoutcast or Icecast stuff. | | illJazz Premium join:2002-09-04 switzerland
| reply to steve1a Thanks! Finally I know what to install. Can't wait for this to get out of beta.
It's media library features are the main reason that keep me from installing Foobar, because if I want any type of functionality like that in Foobar, I'd first have to install about 42 "components". It's kind of like comparing Firefox and Opera, without wanting to start a browser war
Both ways of dealing with feature-load have their advantages. I just prefer the program to be inherently feature-rich rather than requiring me to add stuff on later to make it do what I'd like it to do.
Again, thanks. -- Brutally honest--whenever possible. As a consequence what I say is IMHO, always. "Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards."
