Wardriving vs Free Area Wide Wi-Fi

Is there a difference in terms of personal PC security?

Someone connects to your network via wardriving
vs.
both u and the "wardriver" are on the same free area-wide wi-fi network.

You still have to protect yourself no matter how both got on
to the same network.
