I wonder what the 'lease upgrade fee' will be. |

| reply to Anonymous said by Anonymous :I wonder what the 'lease upgrade fee' will be. I just left DISH for comcast (heaven help me) because of the "lease upgrade fee" for their HD-DVR - $299. Yes, $299 to upgrade AND YOU DON'T EVEN OWN THE BOX!
I told them I would stay if they waived the "upgrade" fee, but they wouldn't do it.
Not upgrading isn't really an option, unless you don't want any of the programming that is ONLY available in mpeg4 - local HD channels over the sat, all new HD programming.
It's too bad, 'cause I liked DISH, but comcast now offers more for less. |

There are those that purchase the service and pay their monthly rates like everyone else for service provided. Then there are those that feel more important than the rest of us and "entitled" to something that the general public isn't.. Those people are the ones that help keep rates higher for the rest of us. Why? Does anyone think that those discounts come out of no where? nope. These discounts are an expense to the company and they have to come somewhere.
Everyone else, please thank these "I want it free" or "waive this or I am leaving" people in part for why your rates do go up in a competitive world. |

And they charge $5 extra for locals. thats plain wrong. why would anyone pay for locals when they can get them free with an antenna? cable gives locals free thank god. -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth |

| reply to Anonymous I think some of you are losing focus of the point the poster and early repliers were trying to make. They have nothing wrong with leasing/renting a STB. Its when they are expected to pay the equivalent of a 'blue sky' in order to be granted the permissing to lease/rent that is a message being received by comsumers.
For instance, let's say that a STB would retail outright on the B&M shelves for $1200. Also, let's say DirecTV is willing to lease/rent the STB for $10/month provided you pay them $200 up-front as the 'blue sky' palm-greasing agent. Well, I'd rather pay nothing up-front and simply pay $12/month to lease/rent.
But it is because the mandatory 'blue sky' requirement is being interpreted by the marketplace by the business as being questionable, and sometimes downright offensive. If someone is willing to lease a lesser of a STB for $10/month when it retail shelves for $1000, then why not $12/month for a $1200?
It just seems like DirecTV has trained its customers to expect one thing and now is changing it and at the same time acting all surprised the market place isn't as complacent as before. Give me sour milk and I'd cry, too. |

I agree, but I place the blame squarely on the providers themselves. I'm fed up with "new customer" and "retention" deals. Why is paying a reasonable monthly price too much to ask? -- \\ROB - a part of the SCB local network |
