Engineers want to tinker on the product but marketing rules the corporate world, the lords of chaos. Engineers say we need to work on the 802.11N but marketing say no it good enough get it out the door today; I promised customer we will have 1000 unit on his shelf by last week. We can patch thing up later. | |

| It's "finalized" in the sense that there's a draft that was sent to letter ballot. It ain't perfect; there are bound to be errors in a document that big and complex. People vote "no" to ensure that their comments are considered by the group. This is SOP in the IEEE; the draft will go through a couple of iterations of balloting until the group agrees that all the non-negligible errors have been rung out.
But the press have magazines to sell and websites to promote (like this one), so they spin this like it's some big thing. | |
