| Hiking, round 2
Last week we went to the Pitt Wildlife Loop (thread here: »The hiking season has started! ). We liked the area so much that today we returned for some canoeing and more hiking. Our goal is to get out every week and do increasingly difficult hikes, so that by the end of the summer we will be able to climb some of the most scenic peaks around here.
All pictures here taken with the Sigma 18-125 (so much for blowing all that money on expensive lenses). Quite a few of them were taken at ISO 3200, which never ceases to amaze me.
The trail we plan to do is only accessible by canoe, so we set off paddling. Francesco is in front, and Paula travels leisurely in the "princess" seat. I steer.

The views from the creek. We paddle upstream for 90 minutes.

Once on the other side, we hike for 45 minutes on an old logging road. There is a wilderness trail as well, but the recent rains have washed out the bridges.

Not much wildlife today. In fact, I dragged along the heavy 80-200 f/2.8 for nothing. Only this guy comes out to say hello.

New growth forest to the side of the road. Did I mention how I love the high-iso performance of the 7D? That is ISO 3200 right there!

Widgeon Falls, our destination today. Thunderous and powerful. You do not want to fall in there.

Plenty of fun with slow exposures. I do not yet have an adaptor ring to fit my ND filter on the 18-125, but luckily it was quite cloudy. I didn't bring a tripod, but found that my backpack makes an excellent bean bag.

Can you believe the color of that moss?

After returning to the campsite where we left our canoes, it was a quick hour of downstream paddling and back to civilization. An amazing little outing. More next week, and thanks for looking! -- My ShutterPoint gallery My ImageEvent galleries |

I'm seriously considering getting the 18-200 Minolta lens, but I dunno just yet. It sure would make the travel kit a lot lighter. |
