yeah right they have been saying phone service for 2 yrs. with all that is going on with comcast it will never see the light. The city council here is about to turn our market over to comcast if insight does not make some vast improvments and pays the city some cashola.

"yeah right they have been saying phone service for 2 yrs."

It's been longer than two years. I can pull up old threads here where I had discussions about this when the Insight forum was created. And I was told phone service was in the works and coming soon.

Here is an article that covered what their Columbus division was expected to do in 2003.

»columbus.bizjournals.com/columbu···ry7.html

I'd have to go dig for some of the older threads. But the 2 years has been more like 3 or 4 in my opinion. Either way it's always more talk than actually rolling out a service. Which has been promised as "coming soon" for a very long time now. And real information on the companies true plans doesn't seem readily or easily accessible.

Well for one thing the city can't just hand over to another operator. Insight owns the cable so Comcast would either have to buy it or run new cable. Since Insight and Comcast are illegitimate sisters they won't overbuild each other.

This is where the statewide or nationwide franchise agreements are great because you don't have to screw with some city that wants to improve the infrastructure or add some stupid city council camera or channel and then put it off on the cable company to pay for it. Then listen to the bitching and moaning when the cable company raises rates to offset it. They are just basically passing on a tax via the cable company then cry wolf when they raise rates...

that is not the case comcast has severed its ties with insight. your right they cant just hand over the network but they can ask another provider to buy the lines and insight would have to probobly sell it or they could just allow another company to come in and compete with insight or relaxe the restrictions on att and let them lay there fiber to the curb quicker.

I haven't heard of Comcast severing any ties with Comcast. Can you point to any articles where this is shown? Other than when they took some of the Illinois systems back when the contract expired?

Again where are you getting this information from? I sure haven't seen any news from Insight or Comcast about anything happening.

Forgot to add... Iggy I live in Columbus and yes Insight has had phone service for at least the 3 years I have been here. Never had it but they offered it to me when I moved here and again when I moved at the beginning of the year.

No, that article is about Insight and Comcast breaking their 50/50 deal. Neither side has dropped the hammer on it. That was also speculation about the Adelphia deal and that is about to close and Comcast has not shown any interest in breaking up Insight. Even if Comcast did, and they haven't, Insight has said they will use their 6 month extension option. Insight has also publicly said they will not be the ones breaking the deal it would have to be Comcast

I have my information from someone at Insight that I am friends with.. Unless they push it back for some unforseen reason, Indiana will be first (September) and after that deployment will come Central Illinois.
