I'm looking for user reviews and info about Voice Eclipse and can't find much of anything, good or bad, here or elsewhere. Does anybody know anything about them, or of a site where I can read about them?
Thanks. |

| I assume you have the website »www.voiceeclipse.com/
The parent company is USLec (»www.uslec.com) that has been offering telecommunications for about 10 years. They acquired Megapop (Starnet) some time ago.
As far as voip goes they have a limited access numbers. I find this strange since the megaopp buyout should have given them pop locations all over the country. What is involved in updating and or merging diapup access point into voip I don't know but I would think it wouldn't be that difficult. |

| reply to rivercity They seem to have local numbers here, so that's not an issue for me, I guess. I've been through the website and like the plan with 2 actual lines/numbers for $19.95, plus the efax feature. The trade-off is the hefty set-up fee, but that would be offset within a few months by the higher prices I would pay with other providers that would meet my needs. The TOS are a little obnoxious -- they say they charge a porting fee if you port your number out of their service, which I haven't seen before (although maybe I'm naive and it's actually common practice).
bmize13, I have no idea what the policy is about posting short reviews in the forum, but I've certainly seen lots of opinions posted here! If you're no longer with VoiceEclipse I'm guessing you weren't happy with them for some reason. Any general info would be appreciated. Did you port a number from them, and if so, did they charge a fee for it? |

2 edits | I started to port a number, but stopped the process before it got off the ground.
My experience: I wanted a company with stateside tech support... They came up in my list of searches. One website I visited had them rated rather high. I now understand the lessons of reading the positive AND the negative posts before making a decision.
Things that went right: Order to live in 2 days. Plug in the ATA and had dial tone right off the bat. And, not to be too critical, that's really where the honeymoon ended.
Their website says that they have fax service... I now understand a bit more of that from this site. Still, I was never able to make a fax go through. Called Sales, who told me, "Yes, we have fax service! Our tech support guys can help you get that working." Called tech support and received a reply of, "Well... good luck with that. It'll never work"
I spoke with a sales person prior to ordering. Asked very specifically about caller-ID with name. He said, "We have that right now." He was wrong. Tech support said, "No, we don't have caller-ID with name. Just the number will appear when someone calls you." That was a downer.
I know this next thing is a small one, but it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Their website said that, whenever I wanted, I could cancel by logging into my account and selecting the cancel option from there. It does not exist. I began to grow concerned about being "trapped" with a company I was quickly learning not to trust. In order to cancel, I had to call tech support... who told me that I had to send an email to a particular address (billing@voiceeclipse.net), stating in detail the reasons why I wished to cancel. I was leary of this because ALL other correspondence had come from XXXXXX@voiceeclipse.com So, I emailed both. And the .com address replied. I'm not certain if the other existed or not, but I didn't want to risk going past the trial period on account of a bad email address.
On the subject of web consoles: Very poor design. You can not retrieve voicemail from the Internet. Call logs are poorly organized. Again, no caller-ID with name, so call logs are even harder to read. The console also looked as if it had been designed by a community-college student doing a class project. Very inefficient, very poor layout, very bad design, horrible to navigate.
There is the plus of an additional phone number in any area code serviced by VE... but that simply wasn't a selling point for me. In absolute honesty, I couldn't get away from them quick enough. Yes, the service worked. But the lack of accurate information really left a sour taste in my mouth.
If you sign with them, I wish you the best... and hope that it goes much better than my experience.
Almost forgot: Tried the eFax service about 10 times, both from my office and home. It never worked. |
