I posted about the ineptness of the "Geek Squad" a while back. I won't dig into the archives but here's a brief overview. It was about a year or so ago.
A friend in the neighborhood had purchased a new PC from the company the "Geek Squad" is associated with. We all know who they are. Anyway she calls me and says her 3 month old "New PC" won't turn on. Since I'm the neighborhood "Geek Squad" I go over to check it out.
I push the power button. Nada, zilch. I open the case and find the power switch connector was loose. Push it back in and the PC started up. She thanks me very much.
Now being the evil SOB that I am, I pull the connector off. I tell her that since the PC is under warranty, and just for shits and giggles, lets take it to the "Geek Squad". The store was only a mile away.
So we bring the PC in and tell them the problem. The guy at the counter says it's going to take a while to check it out. No problem we say. We'll just do a little shopping.
About 45 minutes later I went over to the repair window to check. "Yes sir. we've checked the PC out and unfortunately the hard drive has failed. The good news is that the PC is under warranty. The bad news is that we have to order a new HD from the manufacturer".
I ask him if he had opened the case to check to see if it might be another problem. He said that wasn't necessary. They used the latest diagnostic equipment to check these type of problems.
I said just for the Hell of it open the case. After some argument he complied. I pointed out the disconnected power switch and politely ask him to reconnect it. Well LO and Behold. It powered up.
My friend looked at me and I winked at her. I looked at the dumb ass behind the counter and told him he was an idiot. Next time check all your bases and not what your Dumb Ass company tells you.
We walked away smiling like Hell. With my backed turned I could still feel this "GEEK SQUAD" member flipping me off. |

We need a modern days consumer advocate like some kind of hip tatooed Ralph Nader who takes on these shops by entraping them and then suiing them, by using tactics like you did to catch them in the act. They could also plant survelance equipment in the computers to record what is said while they are being worked on, heh heh.
I could see Best Buy finally being sued by a class action lawsuit and being brought down to their evil knees and subsequently going under. Then seeing an honest vendor take their place, forever knowing that it could be them next!
America needs to start fighting for her rights again. If we can find great minds like the two guys that gave us google (I just read a cool article about them) we can find some visionary to be a great and profitable consumer advocate.
Hey, if Firestone got caught in the act, so should Best Buy/Geek Jerks (err, geek squad). I'd LOVE to sue them.
I'll never forget the crappy attitude of the BB employees back in Ithaca when I lived there up until last year. Especially the jerk squad idiots. I caught them twice making fun of me behind my back, only for me to put them in their place for being total nimrods. Both times it felt good, too, very vindicating.

| reply to signmeuptoo I'm not a modern day Ralph Nader. Nor do I wish to go around the country looking for EXCUSES to sue. There's way too many sue happy people in this country as it is. That's why I strongly advocate a "Loser pays all" bill.
The point of my recent and past posts were simply to show the ineptness and down right "stupidity" of the Geek Squad. I made a point that is well documented. That doesn't mean I'm going to jump on the Sue Wagon that's plagued this nation. I'm not one to sue because of stupidity.
I leave that up to "Stupid People". Those just looking for a reason to screw someone.
The Geek Squad and others like them are stupid. They just follow the rules set forth for them. Their only problem is that they're pussies and afraid to stand up for the truth. They do what's told of them. |

There ARE a lot of "sue happy" folks in personal injury and some other areas, however, USA consumers have been very much like cattle when it comes to shopping and product disappointment. We certainly ARE NOT sue happy in THAT area, and it is time for US consumers to start forcing retailers, merchants, dealers, and manufacturers to halt all of their deceptive and corrupt practices.
One good example is Earthlink. Anyone who has, in the last 5 years, gone through an Earthlink DSL setup hassle like me will tell you how underhanded they can be. 6 months of hassle before they had me running, while it cost ME money, and then, no more than 1 month later, and they cancled my service without telling me or showing any courtesy until I managed to get BBD cable through TW/ELNK so I could keep my email addy. Now that I have gmail I don't care any more.
Honestly it really IS time for a huge consumer movement to start. -- God Bless us all. Pray for the starving in the world. Pray the Rogue nation's change their ways and our nation can resolve to not force itself always on others. Protect Taiwan from China. Peace to the world. |

Boo-freakin'-hoo. I'm disappointed that you, at 50-someodd years of age, can't seem to grasp that people won't always be nice and helpful.
Some people are smart. Others are dumb.
Some people want to help you. Others want to screw you over.
Some people know what they're talking about. Others do not.
And you genuinely think that a lawsuit will fix that? That a lawsuit will make everyone be fair and helpful? Wow.

How dare you suggest that these are in any way similar? The nerve!

| reply to signmeuptoo I totally understand. I went through the Earthlink crap a few years ago when it was Mindspring. At the time Mindspring had their shit together and had one Hell of a great customer service department. All that went to Hell when Earthlink bought them out. My solution? I dumped them 2 months later.
We can all bitch and complain about the services we get. Whether it be Earthlink, Bellsouth, Comcast, or whoever. The bottom line is this. If you think you're getting screwed. Dump the service! Don't wait for stupid answers from whatever company your dealing with. Dump them and move on.
As an example: I was with a well known gas supplier for several years. I was paying X amount that was locked in. I get a notice to continue for next year at a price almost 100% higher to lock in. Not going to happen. I realize the costs have gone up, but before I do anything, I search for better prices. I find a supplier that is only 25% higher. I lock it in. Now I get notices from the previous supplier begging me to come back at a substancial reduction in rates. Bullshit! If you wanted me as a customer you wouldn't have tried to screw me in the first place.
So what's my point, you ask?
We all make choices. We have the right to change those choices. If we make a bad choice should we sue? Hell No!
Unfortunatly some people make lots of bad choices. Then they feel it's their right to sue because of their owm stupidity.
Again, what's my point? If you choose a company for services rendered and you're not happy with those services, you do have a choice. You can keep the service and bitch like Hell when you have problems and listen to that companies BS about your problem. Or option B. Tell them to kiss your ass and find someone else.
Option A has never been an option to me. You can listen to all their B.S. and promices, but in the end you're still screwed.
Good grief! I'm rambling here. Help! |
