DSLAM's and Neighbourhood devices

Before in my neighbour hood i could never get bell highspeed and could only get thie lightspeed junk or the shitty 1.5 mb dsl line. this was crap so i always bought rogers.

One week i saw a yellow entourage van there upgrading the some box with bell on it (SEE MY PHOTO'S) , 2 days later i checked and i qualified for the 5 MB plan !!!!!

So are they going around upgrading. This week i saw another van there. i couldnt resist there was guy with a laptop and a cable going inside the brown box (SEE PHOTO'S)

I asked him if they were deploying ADSL 2 and he looked at me like i was from another country. anyway i got some pic's. but at the time i didnt have my camera to get pics innsid ethes emsyetry boxes.

now what are these boxes in my photo's attached? DSLAM? if so these boxes are about 300 ft from my house !!!. also the boxes have stuff about bell underground telephone cable on them.

the pictures »rapidshare.de/files/16918922/bel···zip.html

feel free to comment. if this is the DSLAM that means i am close and should switch to an ISP that doesnt traffic shape. ADSL 2 anyone?

I don't think the ETS guy had anything to do with it now being available.

Expertech usually does all 'plant'upgrades, never heard of one of us doing that ever.

What you see in the picture is a really old JWI (Jumper Wire Interface) and a new one.

There may be slams now in the new box and they may be cutting everyone over into the new one which is possible reason why you now qualify for DSL.

so if the speeds increase or ADSL 2 comes out am i going to have to wait another 5 years likei had to wait for DSL. i was only able to get 5 mb DSL 1 week ago. so something was recently done.

Finally able to look at them. On the left is a brown OPI (outside plant interface made by Nortel) with an aerial cable designation of 331-5 cable, it doesn't appear to have a stinger but the back is not visible. On the left is a JWI (jumper wire interface made by 3M) and older type of junction point between the underground and distribution or aerial cable. Jumpers are run within the devices to make it easier for technicians to change pairs in case of pair troubles. Nice pics.

Neither box is an OPI. The one on the left is actually an older JWI and is just painted brown.

hey Glen i could go and get another pick of the back it is a 2 minute walk lol, does this have anything to do with internet in my area or DSL. cause these boxes were recetnly being worked on and the day after i qualified for 5 mb dsl.

@sympatico.ca
On the back will just be another set of doors.

I am not going to quibble whether it is a painted JWI or an OPI, all you have to do is look at the rear side and see if there is a smaller box attached to the device with a padlock on it. That would constitute a dsl device. Most OPIs are identified as brown...now they are painting them to confuse everyone...lol. Check out the fourth picture down in this group of "painted" devices:

Hey guys I come here to help people with their dsl issues not to criticize other's judgement or values. Check my posts and see if I have a habit of being sarcastic or jumping on others. I would appreciate others doing the same. Thanks.

The shape of the brown indicates a JWI, which usually are green in colour, and the doors open on both sides so a stinger cannot be mounted on it. This doesn't mean there isn't a remote nearby and the best way to find out is next time a ETS or Bell tech is working in there, just ask him. Hopefully he won't be having a bad day.

They are both JWI's(one painted the other not) though not important.

There may be a CAB nearby providing slams to the JWI.

The boxes in the Photos are JWI(Jumper Wire Interface).

Inside those boxes there is nothing but jumper wires connecting pulls of cables that may measure anywhere from 25-12000 meters.

DSLAMs are located only in Central Offices or Unnmanned CO's in remote areas(Not to be confused with remotes).

Sorry mate, but nothing special in those boxes...thats the easy part of the job.

@206.47.x.x
And where do you think the connection to the remote is?

I believe BellTechxDSL is right about the devices in the pictures. After having a good long look at the one on the left it really looks like a JWI that has been painted brown. There wouldn't be any dsl equipment in these old structures, only cross connects for telephone lines.
