| [Connectivity] Extremely slow internet in Jacksonville (Riversid
Ok. So I've got the 8 megabit tier on my account and I'm having extremely slow speeds. I live in the Riverside area of downtown, McDuff avenue.
It takes a good 5 minutes to fully load www.msn.com, 2 minutes to www.google.com, etc....
here is a ping test:

Jeez, how many routers are you using? I count two. The first thing you need to do is take the routers out of the equation and plug the computer straight into the cable modem.
Aside from that, the only thing that looks amiss is the dropped packet on your fourth hop. The ping loop looks good, but you only left it running for ten seconds...if you leave it running for a minute or so, do you lose any packets? |

| reply to tbonecopper Looking at the short ping test, the tracert and signal levels I do not think this is going to be a communication problem with the modem. Granted the layered routers -may- cause a problem but that's already been stated.
I'd try running a command prompt ftp test off the local Jax server.
Get a command prompt opened. type ftp then press enter. type 'open ftp.se.ipsvc.net' without the quotes and press enter. for the user name use ftp the password, use test@comcast.net nothing will appear when you type it in. type 'bin' without quotes and press enter. type 'hash' without quotes and press enter. type 'get 5Mb' without quotes and press enter. make sure that's typed in the with a capital M.
Post the resulting speed from there. I'd do it at least two to three times so you can see the average. Also did you happen to see a section in your signal levels that said QAM? And is this issue in relation to your last post about connection problems or is this a new issue that popped up? -- If it's worth saying, it is worth saying politely |
