Well, a while back, someone decided that teaching proper grammar was a thing of the past. I haven't had an actual lesson on grammar or spelling in school for as long as I can remember (I'm a high school senior now). The only reason I can read and write as well as I can today is that my parents started me at the age of three.
Apparently the idea is that students will learn grammar from their reading and from being corrected when they make mistakes in papers they write. I can tell you right now that this is bullsh!t, because 90% of the kids in my grade couldn't form a proper sentence in Standard Written English if you put a gun to their heads. |
