[Tutorial] Ultra Sharpening Action Set

I have been working on this little Action Set for a while now. It has worked fairly well on the majority of the images I have run it on. It adds a slight contrast enhancement as well and will really bring out the details. Make sure image has already had noise reduction done on it as this action will also bring out noise and artifacts if they are present in the image. You will first need to download and install Custom Filter from »www.reindeergraphics.com/index.p···temid=57
This Action is in a Beta form, but has been thoroughly tested. Please read the two Text files contained in the Zip file as well. Here is are some samples:

It was developed and tested on Adobe PS CS2, I have no idea if it will work on other versions.

Yes, thanks. Sharpening is something I have to improve on. It's very hit and miss for me.

So there isn't any confusion, the Custom Filter from Reindeer Graphics has a version for MAC and a version for Windows. Here is a direct link for the Win version:

MAC Version:

Here is another example. Pay special attention to the details that get brought out in the Kookaburra's feathers. This is a one click and go.

Hi MM,

Nice job! One question, How much Contrast are you adding to the pic thru the Action? For my taste and preference it seems a "Little" Too much. But then again what do I know....

Actually, hardly any contrast at all, just a slight local contrast enhancement. One of the better ways to get details to come out without causing artifacts and all the unwanted things. This works superbly for print. It is my new method I will be using from now on. Brings out some serious details in macro work! All the adjustments & enhancements are done a separate layer so they can be adjusted as for the amount by simply lowering the opacity.

Here is my stab at it. Keeping with the Rhino theme in the first post. I like this. Easy as pie to implement too.

Full sized posts (3000x2008), so you're duly warned.

I have been using Fast Stone Image Viewer for a while now just because it has an excellent Sharpening tool. here's my comparison using Fast Stone....the pics are before noise reduction.

I would love it if some of these wonderful scripts etc., were written for PSP. I feel so left out!

GMTA---words out of my mouth!

MacroMan, that kookaburra comparison blew me away. Great work for a "one-click".

In a bind, Paint Daubs filter (PS) will give you this with brushstroke and sharpness set to 1. Larger images may take more sharpness adjustment.
