Went from Dial Up to ComCast about a month ago,..the switchover went smoothly,...(Did it myself so proud!)

I am online CONSTANTLY,(no life)..My Computer is connected probably 20 hours a day whether I am using it or not.

Yesterday I noticed much slower connections, and then suddenly an icon up by the clock appeared that said, No or limited connectivity. In all actuality I had NO CONNECTIVITY AT ALL. I went thru the steps it told me to take,.. and figured out that my IP address needed renewing?

I called ComCast and they had me do a lot of unplugging and re-plugging, and back online I went.

4 Hours later same thing,..This time the ComCast person had me go into run and release my IP address, and reconnect it,..and back online I went.

This morning,..I woke up,..same thing,..Icon in the corner, No or limited connectivity,..so I unplugged everything and turned my computer off in anticipation of my phone call to ComCast. When I got the guy on the line, he said to re-connect everything and then admitted that they weren't doing anything from their standpoint,.. that basically by me disconnecting and reconnecting everything,..I am solving my own issues here.

So if I can fix it why complain? Cause WHATTA DRAG! I am getting so sick of this. First off out of the blue,.. why would this just start happening and then happen 4 times (Yes, it happened again) Can you conjure up what in the world would make this suddenly occur and then how in the world do I fix it?

This is my first time posting here,.. I am sorry if I said or did anything wrong,..I am L-O-S-T.:( I chose this subject forum to post in because my issue seems to be my connection which has been temp fixed previously, by a lot of unplugging of the "Modem."

Thank You in advance for any consideration you can give my lil quandary.:)

I have no idea, but all the cable modem gurus in here always say "post your power levels", so that's my advice.....

Point your browser to 192.168.100.1 and click on the "Signal" page and post that info here.

Welcome to the site Shea2 See Profile!

We have a »Comcast HSI Forum here also that may be of some help to you. If you want, you can ask a Mod to move this over to that Forum. To do that just click on the "hey mods" at the bottom of your post and ask there.

Good luck!

Let's go ahead and move you over the Comcast, so you can get ISP specific help there. As sashwa See Profile said, welcome to the site!

Okay here it is,...

Frequency 585000000 Hz Signal To Noise Ratio 35.6 dB Power Level -1.1 dBmV
The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream Value
Channel ID 7
Frequency 32000000 Hz

Your upstream power is too high. Take some splitters out the path of the modem, and/or call Comcast. Tell them about that upstream power.

I have only one splitter. (In the house)

So I guess I will have to call ComCast...:(

Thank You I will let you all know what happened I guess...
IF they fix it.

Yea, your problem is your upstream is too high. Look for splitter you can remove. Lose fittings/connections, make sure they are all tight as that affects the upstream the most. If you have a Comcast box on the back of the house and its unlocked you can open it to see if their is a filter, and if so remove it. Otherwise tell comcast about the upstream level and have them send somebody out.

Oh, if any inside cabling you have doing to the modem is cheap low quality or has cheap connectors that you put on your self you might want to try replacing that first

I of course before I posted anything, or called anyone, made sure that all my connections were tight, plugged in, and getting power. I know myself too well and would never want to waste anyones time with my lameness...

....So, we've established that I'm a bit of a numbskull and can't get much help around this house 9/10s of the time,..(Even tho the better half works for Verizon) I learn how to fix stuff on my own,.. so I was thinking (Which can be dangerous) that since I am dumped off line after about an hour,.. that I'd just go ahead and disconnect everything and reconnect my modem directly from the wall. No TV attached right?,..Well, 2 hours later I am still up and running.
So,..I am HOPING that this was indeed a splitter issue.

The ComCast guy said that he didn't think my upstream and all of that was the cause,.. but that I had a bad splitter. Still I have a tendency to want to go with all of your advice before a guy that works at ComCast,..(Weird huh?) But if you all are in this forum unpaid, and just to help people no doubt in my mind your advice would be more forthcoming than ComCast,.. So, I am going to see if I stay "Up" now,.. and I will let you know, Whatta soap opera!!!
"As the Modem Turns"...
"All my Children?" No,..More like,
"All My Connections"
"The Edge Of Night?
"The Edge of Connectivity"

Actually,..My Soap Opera should be of the Australian Persuasion,..since THEY allow swearwords. (Sorry I'll be less wordy and more professional next time,..This whole thing has sent me to the loony bin
