| [Help] Another Bird ID
I'm sure this is just a juvenile or female duck of some sort but so far I can't confirm that. Can someone please help?

| This is a male Gadwall. I suspect that he is molting into his breeding plummage, as he has a bit of a mixture of breeding/non-breeding characteristics. Still, they are a very plain bird at all times of the year, and I am sure are commonly confused for the female of another species. The keys for me are the fine patterning on the sides and front, as well as the black tail region. The males get the black bill for the breeding season. -- -- Judd Patterson Photography -- |

| reply to Nezmo Thank you and all the more reason for me to get those new books as this is not in the one I currently have.
I think he was a loner among a ton of Mallards and a bunch of Northern Shovelers that have recently arrived. -- My Gallery Formerly Nezmo |

I thought we just had Mallards and a few variations but it seems we have a few other types in the mix. I only saw one of these at the time. -- My Gallery Formerly Nezmo |
