competative pricing?

looks like bellsouth is really tightening the screws on the "independent" isp's, they just lowered the price on the 3.0 service to $37.95. hard to believe, snappy quoted me about $60 for the same a few days ago.

Depends on how you define competitive. You can't compare apples and oranges and expect to get the same result.

i was on snappy and now am on bellsouth. the "apples and oranges" both grow on the same tree and shouldn't be that much different in price from what i have seen.

Try comparing the routing, technical support, and Acceptable Use Policies. They are so vastly different between the two it's clear to me you haven't looked into them or just don't appreciate the difference if you did.

i was on snappy for 3 years and had a bridged connection. if you read the recent posts you'll see snappy is not the same snappy of the last three years. they no longer will supply a bridged connection and the pppoe connection they downgraded me to recently was poor. they have also recently put some kind of "system wide filter" on their email system that would not allow transfer of a simple dll file and "tech support" would not explain what the filter was or how to disable it. the news feed has always been capped or throttled so it is unuseable. when i signed up 3 years ago the routing was out of the tampa pop on a bridged connection. routing has been changed and the speeds have diminished. when i asked for a refund for the downgrade in service, i was told i really wasn't entitled to one because of a price increase that i was never told about. when i cancelled the service this week because of the above reasons i was told they would not refund the rest of month of service already charged on my card. the "aup" is only as good as the service and that has gone down. i have resisted going to bellsouth for six years but that's all that's left and if snappy had given me any hope of getting back to it's old self i would have stayed.

Speed_change you are 100% right. My speeds have also dropped noticeably. I too was a DTVDSL survivor and switched at the same time. My speeds have been a constant 1200/200 and now the last 6 months or so -- 700/200. When my bridge connection goes so do I...

This seems to be a 'circular' thread about a number of issues.

Let's address them one at a time:-

If one is experiencing speed degradation on a dsl line, then please call in to technical support (that is what they are here for) and 'troubleshoot' the issue. (No one alone can pinpoint or fix the problem without talking to the other).

There is no "Grand Conspiracy" to provide anything less than the best possible internet surfing experience.

Bridge connections:- Yes, they are more expensive to provide, and area also going away in the near future. (The are only available for 1.5meg x 256K speed). This is purely due to regulatory changes..You can thank the FCC for this.

Again, there is no "Grand Conspiracy" to short change anyone.

Most of our residential subscribers qualify for the faster 3Meg Service (in Florida and Georgia), This product is only available on the PPPoX Platform, regardless of which provider one gets this service from.

Most residential subscribers who are on a Bridge Connection, can upgrade to the 3Meg service for about the same monthly bill. We do have promotional offers to facilitate these upgrades.

If one only wants to reduce their monthly, one can speak to the sales folks and convert to a Residential 1500 plan.

Again, no "Grand Conspiracy".

So here are some hard core questions:-

Are we as cheap as BellSouth or Earthlink ? The obvious answer is NO.

Does SnappyDSL provide a better quality of Internet Access and Customer Service ? By you own admissions the answer is YES, since most of you have been using the service for a lot longer than any of your previous providers .(Even though some may insist on NOT calling into Technical Support when experiencing technical issue -:))

Are we perfect and never have problems ? It would be a lie if we said YES...

Regardless of what the Cisco TV Commercial imply, the network does not run by it's self, and it is a constantly changing / evolving environment.

Speedchange was complaining about the filtering on the Mail server..he is right, it is mightily inconvenient...however I am sure he would have been complaining more loudly if the mail server was brought down for an ex tented period of time due to the affect of the virus that it was blocking with that filter....or if we had blocked port 25 traffic as most of the other providers are now starting to do out of frustration !

SnappyDSL's challenge, from the very beginning has been to offer the best set of options and services that can be provided under the regulatory and constantly evolving Internet environment. Most of the time, the best set of options are nothing more than compromises to balance the good with the ugly, and this we do on a daily basis, always striving to be proactive rather than reactive.

Ultimately it is about offering the best set of choices to make everyone happy, knowing very well that no one can make everyone happy all at the same time.

even though i have switched to bellsouth, i still check into this forum to see what's going on. i see you had speed problems and after the response from faisal, your speed tests have gotten higher. i see in one of the speed tests, you asked for a reason for the speed improvement, did you get a reason for the speed increase?

Faisal

let's get it straight, i did not know about the email problem until someone on another isp told me his emails to me were bouncing because of a filter i did not know about! i did not even know i was not receiving all my email! there is no way to find out what other email i had not received.

i was complaing about the "system wide" filtering of the email without letting your users know that it had been done.

i see you still have not posted anything on the snappy home page about filtering email.

you still have not posted anything on the home page about your phasing out of "bridge connections" or are you still signing up customers for "bridge connections"?

don't you think it's about time you let all your customers know what you are doing?

Speed_change,

Thank you for suggestions:

We have never posted any details of our Email Spam/Virus Filters policy, since these have been on an auto-pilot updates (Anti-Virus Updates) maybe we should be doing so. I will relay that suggestion to our mail administrator.

As to the Bridge connections, as I stated to you in an earlier post, for the moment this is region by region phase out, and the subscribers who are directly affected are being contacted directly, just like you were.

I did a port reset on the DSLAM port for him.

thanks for the information.

you might want to take a look at this archive of recent speedtests for snappy users and do some more "port reset on the DSLAM port" for the other snappy users apparently suffering also.

A total of 3 different subscribers out of thousands -:)
Each one with their own unique issue -:)

There is no one magic bullet...This is the reason I keep saying, please call in and speak to technical support, so that we can help track it down.

BTW, I saw your other posts in the BellSouth Forum, it looks like you had some other speed/performance issues after switching to FastAccess, which were resolved after your router's firmware updated, hope things are going well now.

Regards.

are you really sure there aren't more?

btw my speed increased immensely as soon as my connection was switched to bellsouth.

i later did some more tuning and upgraded the firmware and rwin and mtu settings in my router because of the pppoe connection and to take full advantage of the new 3.0 connection i have on bellsouth.

Thanks Faisal for the reset. I have not had time enough to sneeze -- so no calls to tech support as I have been in and out of the country doing work in the Middle East..

One thing that does need improvement is your WEB page -- it is always outdated and the help/support section really is outdated (wrong/outdated modem setup - XP does exist..)

Other than that still a happy customer -- though still may switch when/if the bridged connection disappears.

Well, I'm being forcibly cut over to PPPoE tomorrow. I'll post speed tests as soon as it's done.

While I'm not thrilled about it, but if it nets me more speed then I don't see how I can complain. OTOH, if there are frequent service drops and a reduction in usable speed, I'll be contacting tech support and maybe shopping around.

Post-upgrade, one speed test said 1100/200 and the other said 900/200. Not too shabby.

I'll be moving to the "Residential 3000" plan shortly. Looking forward to seeing what that does for my connection.

How about Residential 3000 in other areas? Been quite a while since it was first advertised and still only limited to parts of FL and Atlanta.
