how can i update the interface to something more nicer or even update the firmware to make it act like a different router. im using REV E

 I believe you are in Canada. If so, the latest firmware for DI-604 Rev E for Canada is at »support.dlink.ca/ProductView.asp···firmware

Doesn't look much different than previous versions but works the best. Haven't heard of this router being flashed to different version. However, if you're interested in wireless, there is a good thread about flashing DI-524 to DI-624.
