[Info] WPA2-AUTO and IP Assignment - Possible Solution

I upgrade my DLINK 624 to firmware load 2.70 and could not connect wireless from a Compaq notebook when router configured for WPA2-Auto. Interestingly, if I connected my wired connection, and then turned on the wireless connection, the notebook would connect across wireless link. Disabling the wired link, followed by disabling the wireless link, and the re-enabling the wireless link would not work. This is because the notebook could not obtain an IP address from the router's DHCP server, and defaulted to non-routable address on a different sub-net.

I solved the problem by doing two things: one, updating my wireless adapter's driver to the current level that supported WPA, and two, then installing this Windows XP update - »support.microsoft.com/?id=893357

Now it all works. Hope this helps someone with a similar problem...

Re: [Info] WPA2-AUTO and IP Assignment - Possible

Welcome to BBR, Alan! Thanks for the note!

Yes, it's been my experience that the XP update you linked to does fix some problems.

There is also a beta/released version of firmware that also helps: »ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/di624_revC···beta.zip

Just curious, what network card is in the Compaq?

Re: [Info] WPA2-AUTO and IP Assignment - Possible

Ah, yes ... well discussed problem around here: the DHCP problem between Broadcom and DI-624 firmwares between 2.52 and 2.70.

We've been recommending the 2.71 firmware upgrade linked above to solve it (and it does) ... or, if some other problem crops up with 2.71, falling back to 2.42 or 2.50 (also does solve the Broadcom problem).
