| no more bridged connections from snappy!
well, snappy has informed me that my bridged connection is not being offered anymore and has made me switch my connection to a pppoe connection. what a bummer! i have stayed with snappy and paid a premium because of the bridged connection. now i may have to go with bellsouth because of the big price difference and the possibility of a faster speed with the same type connection. the csr i talked with could only give "quality of service" as a reason for the price difference now that i have to have a pppoe connection. when i responded that i had not received a reply email the last time i had a service issue, he had no answer. in my mind, service is only as good as the time it had to be used! now the question is, is there any reason to stay with snappy? |

| Bridge connections are being phased out. Much of this is being driven due to regulatory changes.
For our current Bridge Connection residential customer, in Jacksonville Lata and Altanta, if you take a look at the new pricing plan, you could 'upgrade' to 3meg service for what you are currently paying for the 1.5 meg Bridge Connection.
Also a quick reminder, Technical Support is available 7 x 24 !...Mon-Friday 9am-7pm, call in and speak to the first available Support Rep. After hours, leave a message on the VM for a call back from the Support Rep. on duty. (Phone numbers are listed on our web site, including the Toll Free number).
Support is also offered via email as a convienience, however considering all differnt the factors involved, if you don't get a response to your email inquiry, please call in. |

from what i see i can only get an "upgrade" from my bridged connection to a 3mg plan of pppoe for what i currently pay by signing another annual contract. also, there is no information regarding the price for install/set-up of 3mg service. i assume it is not free or that would have been offered already.
my service issue was regarding having an incoming email message blocked by snappy because it had a dll attached. i had no spam blocker activated at the time and the message was not stopped because of a virus. in fact i did not even get a message from snappy telling me it had been blocked. i was informed by the sender after normal business hours, that was why i had used an email to tech support. 3 days later i got an email stating "The easiest way to get a banned file through the filters is to password protect the zip file that contains it." i never got a response when i asked why there are "filters" on my email that i had not activated. |

Currently 3Meg Service offering is not uniform, let me know what area you are in (IM myself or send in an email to Support@Snappydsl.net).

| reply to speed_change Speed_change,
Phase out schedule varies area by area, as such only the affected customers are being contacted appropriately
The annual contracts, have always been in-exchange for discounts, i.e. if you leave early, then pay us back the discounts offered, you can choose to be on a month to month basis and not take the discounts...(but in the end, the numbers won't make sense, unless you are planning to leave sooner than the year.
The one time charges are not listed on the web site due to ongoing various promotions. I would highly encourage you to call in and speak to the first available sales person in regards to your particular situation.
As to the email attachment issue, there were some 'system wide' changes done to protect the masses due to the crafty email attached viruses. Sorry to hear that it caused you an issue, but from the sounds your email it looks like this was right arround the time the filtering was installed on a system wide basis. |

| i saw nothing posted on your web site about any "filtering was installed on a system wide basis". nothing was posted in system status etc. and your post in this forum has been the first mention of such a change. clearly a system wide change that blocks attaching files to email warrents some mention to users! what exactly has been blocked? are you also blocking outgoing email or are you only blocking incoming email.
what reulatory reasons are you talking about that is forcing the shut down of bridge connections? you still advertise on the website, bridge connection as an option.
i have been a snappy customer for 3 years since dtvdsl closed down. i have allowed automatic charge of my credit card for those past three years and was charged for the upcoming month and then notified that my bridge connection was phased out. you now have my money for a service i no longer have.
when i called the other day to inquire about the email and phone call i had received the night before, i was asked my name and quickly connected to the tech who reset my bridge connection to pppoe. when i asked about a price difference, i was not offered any "ongoing promotion", only the prices posted on the website which i pointed out are higher than bellsouth for the same speed and the same type connection.
if you have not sensed it yet, i am not a happy snappy customer right now. at least when dtvdsl closed down, we were given ample time to find other providers. |

BellSouth is no longer required to offer wholesale DSL to ISPs. Among the effects of this BST has decided to not offer 256 AKA Lite and the new 6MB service as a wholesale product to ISPs. I am sure Faisal can expand on this but this is part of the effects.

| i didn't have a 256 lite connection with snappy. i had a 1.5 bridge connection with snappy. bellsouth has not offered a bridge connection for a long time. in fact that was the reason i had not signed with bellsouth when dtvdsl closed three years ago. |

In addition to what I mentioned above BST is phasing out the architecture that permitted ISPs like Snappy to provide bridged connections. You can thank (or call and bitch) both the FPSC and the FCC for this.

| "In addition to what I mentioned above BST is phasing out the architecture that permitted ISPs like Snappy to provide bridged connections." thank you for the explanation. if snappy would post that on their website, it would have been helpful. in my opinion snappy has mishandled this downgrade of service. |

| reply to Faisal i guess i should update this thread. my connection speed using the new pppoe connection has been low and in the last few days has gotten almost as slow as a dial up account. i have had to find a different isp. i emailed snappy to tell them the date to stop charging for their service. i was told they would only accept a letter or a fax. ok, i sent a fax. i asked for a refund of the charges already posted on my credit card (about 2 weeks worth left) and was told they won't refund anything. seems to me that when an isp no longer can provide a specific service(bridged connection in this case) and the service gets un-useable that the money charged for that service should be refunded. snappy knew they were going to downgrade my service when they charged my credit card, but did not tell me until they had the money. makes you wonder what the requirement of a fax was for. do they think they could still charge my credit card for service not rendered if i didn't send the fax? |
