[SunRocket] Sunrocket voicemail when Internet link is out?

Hi all,

My Sunrocket number doesn't accept voicemail when the gizmo doesn't have an internet connection. If I remember right, I was able to get voicemails before even if the gizmo did not have internet link.

I have Primus, Broadvox and both are capable of receiving voicemails when the devices are not connected to internet.

Any suggestions, experiencies or comments are welcome.

Thank you

As I understand it, failover to voicemail takes about 30 min. to kick in. If you want to take your gizmo offline purposely, use the “Do Not Disturb” option on the website to send all your calls to VM.

It will go to voicemail, but after about 25 to 30 minutes.

you might want to try and time it late at night when you aren't using your phone and see how long it takes to failover to VM for you.

supposedly fixing this was a priority in July, but perhaps it was not »[SunRocket] No VoiceMail coverage when Gizmo off

Thank you all for the postings. I spoke to Sunricket tech today and found out that VM is not supposed to work when Gizmo is offline!

According to him, VM will only be recorded if Gizmo gets the call but phone is not answered. I asked him if this will be fixed, he could not give me a straight answer.

I will play around with it tonight to see if it will be kick in after 30 minutes. This is rather sloppy as every other provider I have used was able to take VM during internet outages.

Has anyone tested? First SunRocket said 4 hours, the other day they said 1hr and now you say 30mins?

I haven't tested it. Just repeating what I've read elsewhere. Fortunately for me, Sunrocket hasn't run any "forced tests" on my line yet.

Re: [SunRocket] Sunrocket voicemail when Internet link is out?

It is 30 minutes, give or take a few. Some users have reported it much faster. I am not sure what they do differently, but 30 minutes is what I have noticed in the past when testing.

DND brings calls right to voicemail, but that can only be set up when someone has access to the internet at that time. On the other hand, failover is worthless for any system outage (look at previous outage threads from Vonage, Voicepulse, etc.,) which limits its usefulness.

I make sure to have my modem/gizmo/router station on an APC battery backup. If you are away from home, driving or without internet access in any other way, and an ISP outage hits, you will have to wait 30 minutes or so for the calls to route. If you have access to the net you can set up your Sunrocket account to get around that time frame.

I can't deny that this is the fact, but it's a perverse fact and IMNSHO shocking that any competent engineer designed it this way. Just think about this. The SunRocket VM system somehow senses the Gizmo's presence in order to function properly. But their call switching does not! If it did, they would have implemented failover long ago.

Update: I disconnected the WAN link of gizmo and it is well over 6 hours and still when I call my number it rings anf then beeps, no VM!!!

SunRocket uses SER (SIP Express Router) to communicate with the Gizmo. SunRocket has stated that when the Gizmo is disconnected a "404" error is returned and the call does not complete or go to voicemail.

Anyone familiar with SER want to confirm how easy it would be for SR to implement something?

Re: [SunRocket] Sunrocket voicemail when Internet link is out?

My Gizmo is dead and I am waiting for a new one. I tried to set my number to forward to my cell. When I call it I get nothing. Just a call failed on my cell. Shouldn't I get my cell voice mail or callwaiting on the cell??

Doesn't look like it works. I set it yesterday and still no go.

Considering that this happens maybe twice a year, one major and another minor in the Chicago area, it's a great feature.

It is so strange that will all the features SR offers, immediate failover (upon gizmo not online) isn't included. What on earth were they thinking?

The combination of this feature being missing and the reliability issues over the summer/early fall probably contributed substantially to SR's ranking plunging.

I agree with your observation. What started as a great service is turning to be a bit of disappointment. Hope they can sort this VM issue.

Re: [SunRocket] Sunrocket voicemail when Internet

very consistent themes:
love turns to hate, again. and more hoping they can improve.

as for the laundry list of features, it's like the list from a creative ideation session "we could do this and this and this and this" but, unfortunately, no one really tested all of them in implementation - so even the basic ones don't work all the time.

even though they told us in July that more rapid VM failover was coming, it's been pushed back on the priority list since then (as recently confirmed by an email from SR in a post)
