 Real world opinions of TelePacket

I'm looking for a decent backup provider who provides a cheap DID. TelePacket seems to be the cheapest @ .95 cents/month, which includes 100 incoming and 100 outgoing minutes. I'd like to get some input from actual users of TelePacket.

I have Free Packet with TelePacket when it was CallPacket. I set it up manually with unlocked PAP2 and it works. It's my backup to Lingo, although Lingo has been very good and I rarely use TelePacket. For the few times I used when my better half was using Lingo it worked well.

I originally did not want to give them my CC number, but I have a temp. number that I could use. I want to see what people here think of them first

Both incoming and outgoing have been trouble-free. The one thing stopping me from making Telepacket my primary provider is that when there is an incoming call, ringing of additional phones is sequential, not simultaneous.

Thanks Test, I was hoping to hear from you. I will give them a try. The webpage shows CID/name 'coming soon'

I don't use it very much but I signed up for Telepacket's 95c plan with a DID. Their audio is good. The 95c plan includes some free minutes. Caller ID shows the phone number of the DID on an outgoing call. I use it with a Sipura adapter.

Telepacket is a decent provider. Have them on the second line on my Sipura. Very nice quality. Very nice backup line. Seem to be always on.

When i first signed up with them they had Caller ID with name listed but it didnt work. *sigh* Now, since they have redesigned their site, Caller ID with Name is coming soon. Funny.

Thanks guys, I feel lots better now. It is just a second line, but I'd like it to work as well as InPhonex. The DID is what I'm really after for the second line.

After some initial problems, the service has been working great for me. I too got in on the early "Free Packet" plan, and get the DID, unlimited incoming calls and 100 minutes outgoing, for the grand total of $0.00. I bet they eventually shut it down, but I'm happy enough with the service that I'd throw caution to the wind and "upgrade" to the 0.95/month plan.

They do have at least one nasty clause in their TOS. Before signing up, I'd want to clarify that it doesn't apply to BYOD customers.

3.6 Termination Fee (Does Not Apply to Business Customers).
You will be charged a termination fee of $39.99 per voice line if your Service is terminated for any reason during the first twelve months following the activation of your Service.

I also got in on the Free Packet deal (Unlimited Incoming and 100 outgoing). This was a good idea on their part, when I convert to full time VOIP use, I think I will go with them, the service seems solid, sound quality is very good and competitive prices.

I unlocked my PAP2 and it's been solid for 2 months now! I would recommend them.

I've had Telepacket on line two of my PAP2 for a couple of months as well. No complaints whatsoever and the LEDs on my PAP2 have been 'steady blue' since day one (i.e., haven't seen their service down yet). Although they don't advertise it, the 100 minutes of US included outbound work for the majority of Canadian numbers as well.

I had occasion to use their 'live help' at one point and the lady who assisted me was friendly and helpful. I hope they're here to stay.

Good to hear that most have had positive experiences. I am a BYOD person, so I won't have to worry about cancellation fees.

I signed up late last night, and got an email saying to give them 24 hours to setup my account. Is this about right ? Will I get my SIP credentials today, or Monday ?

Actually »ipkall.com (free) is probably your cheapest provider for a DID.

And there are many BYOD providers that will sell you outbound minutes on a "pay as you go basis" (i.e. pay only for the minutes you use).

I have several PAYG accounts, but none have DID's for .95 cents/month As I mentioned, this is a second line, so 100 minutes with an inbound DID should be plenty.

How about Stanaphone then? They'll give you a free NY area DID. Unless they've changed their policy, you needn't even part with a c/card number for the DID and free unlimited incoming minutes unless you want to make calls outside of their network.

They support SIP and have great BYOD rates.

Cheers

Re: Real world opinions of TelePacket

The only problem I find calling a telepacket number from my regular PSTN line is there is no calling tone when the party's phone is ringing and will suddenly hear the other end say "Hello". This has been going on since day one (during the October free offer month).

I guess it gives you no joy to hear that I get a regular ring tone when calling from a PSTN phone.
