| If Lautenberg supports it, it is a bad bill
Without even reading further than the fact that Lautenberg is a sponsor of this bill( »thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z···s.01294: ), I can tell you this will go nowhere while the Senate is controlled by Republicans. Lautenberg is hated by most of the Republican Senators and just having his name attached to it as the one who introduced it almost guarantees its death.
The internet bill that will go forward is S.1504. »thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z···s.01504:

| Do you think s.1294 is a "bad bill", or just that it won't pass?
s.1294: A bill to amend the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to preserve and protect the ability of local governments to provide broadband capability and services.
s.1504: A bill to establish a market driven telecommunications marketplace, to eliminate government managed competition of existing communication service, and to provide parity between functionally equivalent services. |

It is definitely a bad bill, just as bad as the one which would ban local governments from offering Internet service because it attempts to extend federal authority where it does not belong.

Ouch, pnh102 takes side with the greedy corporations, dares to say it's bad when people get something for less or - OMG! - free, not paying money for the corporations? What a suprise...
Business as usual. Living here for many long years I got used to the stupid idiotic idea of 'free market tops everything', it's been proven absolutely bad in many areas but I'm quite surprised when now a muni-wireless amendment is called bad by armchair economy/legal experts - ROFLMAO. It's sooo obviously a lie... |

After all, you were the one who was claiming Gmail wasn't free because it contained ads? -- Rove / Rumsfeld 2008! |
