| Protecting AP / Omni
Hi
After loosing my 2nd radio in 18 months (see »Interference?)
The 1st one was killed by indirect lightning, I do not know what killed the 2nd, maybe a Taxi firm.s PMR onmni near mine, it said on it 854MHz and is about 3m long, I think they had been testing other kit too according to a friend who keeps an eye on thing there. Anyway I'm now more than ever in the market for some kind of protection and was wondering if there is any good products out there. I've been looking at these band pass filters »www.hyperlinktech.com/web/band_p···ters.php and wondering if they will do the job or I could install 2 radio s and use 2 sector antennas as the clients are within about 120 deg.
Any recommendations, I've already know that many of you would not use an omni at all, I've got 6 clients on this and I think the max it will ever be is 12. Money is tight as it is a club not a for profit company.
Thanks |

| I don't have any item advice, but I would NOT buy anything from HyperLink ever. Their customer support is very very very bad. I had the wrong part shipped to me, 2 months later and I just got my RMA. Now lets see if I get the right part. I will not order from them again. |

| reply to harvSki Bandpass filters are generally recommended on all colo sites. You never know what the other guys are spewing...
They keep everyone happy.
The third harmonic of 854 is 2562 MHz, which is out of the ISM band, but if they are running substantial power (legal or not) and since you are in very close proximity...then you might be affected.
The BPF would certainly help. Sectorizing couldn't hurt either...try not to "look" at the other antennas at the site. -- A is A |

| reply to harvSki said by harvSki :I've been looking at these band pass filters A low-cost option is "quarter-wave" lightning protector.
These units supposedly do not wear out even after many in-direct strikes and provide some inherent band-pass filtering. |

| DCI makes them.
You can also buy them from fab-corp. They don't have the 900 MHz listed but do state "** OTHER DCI FILTERS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST **". |
