Re: [E-mail] Hidden spam e-mail problem

HMMM well, apparently no one else has had this problem. If anyone is interested, I'll post Comcast's explanation, if I ever get one that is. LOL

I've never really had a problem like this happen before. The only thing I can think of is that they are flagged to be deleted on the server but aren't right at the moment. When you opened outlook it ended up downloading them now instead of leaving them to be deleted?

Do you keep your PC on 24/7 and do you have outlook set to auto download?

I used to use Outlook Express exclusively for downloading e-mail, but figured why download the spam to just delete them, so I started logging on to webmail for the past couple of weeks and deleting the spam messages from webmail. That is why this is so confusing. I don't have Outlook express set to leave a copy on the server, nor is webmail. Even if it was set, why wouldn't I see all 33 of those messages? Even now, I can log on to webmail and delete everything, then immediately open Outlook Express and there will be spam messages downloaded. I've tried it 3 different times since first noticeing the problem and all 3 times, webmail is completely empty but I still get spam in Outlook Express. I still don't have any communication from Comcast yet, so who knows what's going on. Could Outlook Express be accessing a different mail server than webmail does?

Do you have outlook set to download email as soon as you open the program up or do you initiate it?

This is weird. Comcast just made some changes to their WebMail admin pages. They might have made some changes in other things as well. I have Yahoo Mail Plus. Even the messages that are considered Bulk are or can be downloaded to my email client but I have never had this problem with my Comcast addresses. I have had to log into my Comcast Web Mail occasionally to delete the Bulk messages that remain.

You might want to try something like MailWasher to view and delete this SPAM and not have to login to Webmail to do it.

Yes, Outlook Express downloads from Comcast and two hotmail accounts as soon as it's opened. But I also have Webmail open at the same time and it is completely empty.

Set outlook not to download automatically. See if that solves the issue.

This is ridiculous, I cleaned out Webmail and opened Outlook express and before I could change anything, it downloaded 11 spam e-mails. Here is a screenshot of Webmail as well as what was downloaded to OE.

Outlook express has to be grabbing these from a different server. That's the only thing I can figure out.

Once you set it not to download automatically & you purge the spam via web-mail, is it still downloading the spam when you initiate oulook to get messages?

Are you willing to experiment with a different mail client?

Well, I figured it out all by myself. LOL I have 1 other e-mail account at Comcast and that is where the spam e-mails are coming from. Instead of downloading into the correct folder for the second account, they are just going into my main identities Inbox. Problem solved.

Thanks for all of your help Johkal and all others. Um which e-mail client were you thinking of Johkal? If it will solve this spam garbage, I'm willing to try anything. LOL

Thanks Johkal, have downloaded it and installed it and will play around with it for a while. Seems pretty cut and dried simple.

Thanks,
