Re: Question on QIC Assistant

Thanks you two for the replies. To MADx, this fellow supposedly did uninstall Outlook Express. I can't remember if he said it comes back or never really uninstalls.

I personally have been using Outlook 98 and outlook Express on a XP as well as my earlier 98SE machines with no problems. Outlook 98 is my default.

To DonovanFaro, this is a retired fellow with only his wife at home. My understanding is she is not interested in being on the computer. I know the computer only has one user account on the login screen and he only uses one email on his ISP account.

I hope to look a bit deeper this week. If I can verify it changes on a boot up, that will help. I just don't know his machine. The only reason I know this fellow is from seeing him dog walking as well as he his on one of my dog walking routes. So I don't see him that often.

Thanks again!

Also check to see if anyone else uses Outlook Express as their e-mail client on his PC. If that happens it asks to change. I've seen it happen before. Someone in the house whom he just doesnt see do it.

you could go to control panel, add/remove programs, add/remove windows components, scroll down to Outlook Express, uncheck it and click next to uninstall it, that should fix the problem it did for me, when I was using the QIC Assistant and wanted to use Outlook.

Like most people here, I am not running QIC Assistant. And I refuse to install it now also, because I don't like installing stuff to turn around and uninstall it. So I sure hope someone here can answer my question.

Someone I know has been trying to get Outlook to be his default mail program of choice. But from what I gather something keeps changing it back to Outlook Express. I did stop by there earlier this week, did the normal stuff to make Outlook the default. It was working fine when I left.

I saw the fellow yesterday, and he said it was right back to where it was. From what he said earlier in the week, I am 99% sure he has QIC Assistant installed. Does anyone know if that software tries to force Outlook Express to be the default??

Thanks
