Re: [Line Quality] Not pingable on line quality te

On a hunch, turn ZA off and try it again.

This is from the line monitor faq but still applies to the subject at hand:

"On a hunch, turn ZA off and try it again."

While this would be safe to do if a user is running a router. It isn't needed. A simple settings change within the ZoneAlarm software will in fact help you to become pingable.

How do I become pingable with a Linksys router?

My firewall and ZoneAlarm bookmarks include those links. I'll add this thread to those and my Insight bookmarks.

Packet Loss Test (Line Quality) Why do I need to be pingable?

Of course you should also check your router settings to make sure you are set to be pingable there as well. This was mentioned in the first thread I linked above.

Also keep in mind you might need to reboot the router after making changes to the internal settings before those changes will activate. Most of the time this won't be an issue. But I've seen where it helps.

"Here are my results from Tweak Test when I bypass the router and have my network connection in the trusted zone in ZA without ICMP even set to be allowed.

This seems strange that I am able to be pinged without allowing ICMP in ZA or is it that I placed the connection into the trusted zone?"

How did you bypass the router? I'd assume your stating you plugged the cable modem directly into the PC NIC. If that is the case I'd ask what version of ZoneAlarm are you using? If memory serves me correctly some older versions had ICMP set as allowed - this was a default setting. As far as I'm aware having your connection listed as trusted should in no way affect the outcome of the line quality test.
