I have developed a small problem. My phone will ring 1 time sometimes only 1/2 a ring, thats it. I call from my cell phone and all i hear is static.
I have unplugged all the other phones in the house, and disconnected all the DSL filters.
I have also checked at the NID with a plain ol' analog phone, and still it only rings no more than 1 time.
Does anybody have any ideas what might be going on? Splitpair you anywhere around?

| If you are still having the problem from the test jack at the nid (network interface outside)and you know for sure the phone you are using is good, the problem is bellsouth's.There is trbl on the line somewhere,if you just had bad weather, could be a bad coil at the dslam if you are on one. |

| reply to heels_fan It sounds like you cable pair is shorted. It is light enough of a short for you to pull dial tone and call someone from your house. But when you recieve a call the switch will send ringing current down the line to ring your phones and it will see the short and stop ringing (because a short is the signal to the switch that you picked up your phone.) If you checked it at the nid with a good phone then the problem is in the field and you should put a call in for repair. |

Hey LS guess who's sorry butt got pimped out to the P.O.T.S. load?
Ahh what fun work! It's been awhile since I've had to step around a septic tank covered with rotted plywood while avoiding the freshly laid mines from the dozen or so dogs that I hope stay in the house. The up side of the job is when you get up on the pole the fleas that jump off you cant get back on. The down side is you make an easy target for that guy across the street whos been denied service for non-payment.
BTW The handle bar mustache has come back out of retirement and is working disaster recovery out of JAC CO now all they need to do now is find gimpy.

| reply to heels_fan Sounds like his number was forwarded to another number that was shorted. The dogs you see coming are one thing. Its the ones that sneak up on you that I hate. Whats makes it worse is when the owner is standing in the doorway watching as it gets ready to use you for a chew toy. |

I had one sob who actually after being told to restrain the dog (put in another room in the apartment) opened the door to that room and told the dog to "get me" I broke the front door latch on my way out. He later after complaining about the broken latch and lack of service told my foreman he was just kidding around. Real funny.....

| reply to tel601 Awww, she's a good dog, she wouldn't bite anybody, come on in!
How many times you heard that one?
10 seconds later you are dragging the dog around attached to the pant leg of your brand new uniform pants that you spent your last yearly amount on to get. No, she's a great pet!
Are you here to work on my phone? (you're across the street at someone else's house running a wire) Ever had someone ask you that?
Don't mind the mess, I haven't had time to clean up today (piles of stuff everywhere, rotted floor boards). Another classic line in the world of repair.
Back on topic though, this really sounded like a T-R short to me...what with the static and all when dialed. |

I was working on a guys phone and he told me exactly that, except there were two dogs, a little harry thing and one that looked like half a pitbull. I was watching the one that resembled a pitbull and the little hairy one ran up and took a plug that eventually required stitches. You know what the next thing he said was? "Huh, he's never done that before." From that time forward, I never entered a yard without the dogs put up and my pepper spray. (Which I had to buy myself since the company wasn't providing it that long ago.) |

| reply to heels_fan I am sick of uni orders. I always have to wonder about the ones who just pull up to you on the side of the road and ask "are you fixing MY phone?", and then look at you like you are dumb because you do not know who they are. I guess we are suppose to know everybody in the area, and be able to know their house from the other ten thousand in the area. The little dogs are the aggravating ones, they grab a hold and you almost have to beat them off. |

| reply to heels_fan Yeah, those hats are cool alright! I could put a billboard on the front of one of them suckers.
What about the climbing an ice-covered pole, crawling around in a muddy crawlspace, getting shocked by ringing current in the rain. Yes, it does have it's priveledges. |
