Yup... "unlimted" is not unlimited

We all know when companies implement such policies that they _never_ tell their customer service people what is going on. One of two reasons... either they are so stupid they simply forget that this might be a good idea, or the know as soon as the official word gets out that they will get damned by anyone who finds out they are trying to place a cap on their "unlimited" service.

What does "unlimited" mean if not the speed of the service? Oh, the data is unlimited! That's good to know. (morons!)

Its the standard broadband mantra, it refers to not having time quotas like dialup.

As for not informing customers, if you look carefully through your TOS it will have lines like.

quote:
1.d. This Agreement may be changed and updated from time to time by Primus, on advance notice to you. Primus will also post an updated version on its website available at »www.primustel.ca/en/legal/termsofuse.htm. If you do not accept a change, unless you are in a fixed term agreement, you may terminate this Agreement upon at least 30 days advance written notice to Primus. You cannot change this Agreement.

or

quote:
5 System Resource and Utilization

a. Primus will use all commercially reasonable efforts to allocate system resources. As part of resource allocation, Primus may limit, restrict or prioritize access to system resources, including CPU time, memory, disk space, session length, and number of sessions.

I highly doubt they're telling their first line support. Was never told about ANYTHING when was doing same thing. Why? First line isn't cared about. And maybe to hide this and make it so it seems like a mix-up.

Now, for "High Speed Internet with Unlimited Access". Break it up. "High Speed Internet" is the service they offer, though they are offering it with "Unlimited Access" to it. Unlimited access and unlimited internet are very different things, but rarely so to the lay-person. But the ISPs don't care, they'll let you keep thinking it and say "sorry, it's only unlimited access. we can throttle it whoever we want" when they cut you from using their service more than 20% (guessing). Also, they keep the confusing service name so people will think it is unlimited. In a way it could be false-advertising, but wouldn't hold up because the wording is legal.

So to sum,
"Unlimited Access" means you can access it 24/7/366 (including leap years), just can't use it maxed out for that amount of time.

"Unlimited Internet" should mean you can access it and max your connection 24/7/366, tho i believe some ISPs don't look at it that way. That i believe is false advertisement because the wording does NOT mean limits in any sort, except the data speed limit of whatever "up to" speed they offer in their service which is shown in the service offering.

This inevitably will need to be brought to the Courts in order for all of this wording to be straightened out.

Aren't you using the internet if you're accessing it? How can you access it without using it? Can you access TV without using it? I guess you could stare at the cable box.
