| I'm ashamed of my PM
I watched the Address to the Nation speech last night, and I thought it was clear and to the point....in others words, very good. President Bush mention's other countries that attended, etc...but what about Canada? But wait, where is my Prime Minister???? Is he in the bathroom, is he in space, or does he have so much time on his hands that he is helping in NY, with the terrible tragedy that has been brought apon the American people?
So, does anyone know where my chickens**t Prime Minister was yesterday? I sure as hell don't. But I do know one thing,..he shouldn't have been attending that speech, and supporting Bush 100%. There is no excuse on this planet as to why he was not there. He now has dug himself a big hole, and I think he is only going to fill it with his own self-righteous attitude.
This Canadian watched the speech, and I saw the kindness and determination in your Presidents eyes,...I just wish when I looked at my Prime Minister's eyes on the TV, I would see the same,...not the idiotic,...is my hair ok, oops they caught me in another lie crap, that I see now.
I support you, my neighbours, even if my PM doesn't.
Once again, my deepest condolences to the American people |

Do we even know that he was invited? I don't think one just shows up at the door, and I think there were legitimate security concerns about having too many world leaders all together in one place. best mates again. how things have changed.
believe me if Bush needed him badly enough you're PM would have been there... but he doesn't... hate to be the one to have to tell ya...
anyways... its a different kinda relationship... since WWII we've always had a special relationship with the US and we're always backing each other up BIG TIME in times of conflict and more importantly... above all... bush and his team saw the aftermath of the attacks... many people from the UK did lose their lives in this tragedy.
its an international effort... canada is no exception

| reply to mudchucker Thanks to the Canadians and Britons
I noticed he did not mention you guys. But then again, the British PM was there in the room. We do appreciate the Canadians taking thousands of stranded international travelers into their homes. We do thank you for your support. We do offer our condolences to you, the British, and the other 63 nations (including Pakistan) that lost someone in this stupid act. Some tough times ahead, but together we will get through it. We can't always get along with the one we married, so there is no reason to believe we will always be perfect in our relationships with other countries. We Americans are not perfect, but we'll keep trying. Thanks again for everyone's support. An American. -- Sooty's Da Man |

Anon | i think bush should have thanked canada in particular. they were the only country that actually did anything (recieving diverted planes, etc.). all the others were just talk. |

| reply to Anon rald84,
I was thinking the same thing when Pres. Bush said that. We (the company I work for) had some people stranded in Toronto, and they had nothing but praise for the way people went out of their way to help.
The PM of Canada doesn't form my opinion of Canada. The people do. And I have a VERY high opinion.
I'm not trying to belittle Great Britain. Far from it. They as a nation, as well as their members here. have been truly supportive, as have many other nations also represented right here. But, Pres. Bush should have thanked the Canadians, for allowing us to divert these flights, as well as their "neighborly" support. |

| I think too many Canadians are making a big deal out of this. Bush has already thanked us for our help many times last week, does he have to thank us every time he makes a speech? Mr. Bush and the rest of the American people have been very gracious and thankful to my country. I'm just glad we have such good neighbours to the south. |

Yea don't be ashamed of him. He is involved as is your great Nation. I'm just 60 miles from the border and have spent allot of time in Canada over the last oh 12 years or so and the Canadian neighbors are great.
But allot of things going on are and have to be secret. You can be very proud of your Prime Minister. -- God Bless the USA. US Navy Veteran 1983-1987. Life Member: AMVETS,DAV & VFW |

rald84
of course the canadian p.m should have been mentioned...
i was responding to mudchucker being mad at the canadian pm not being there... the way mudchucker said it actually made me laugh i hope someone else saw the funny side of it...
lets lighten up here and not take things too personally... if i can quote tomrc who summed it up pretty perfectly... my opinions of a PM, do not inform my opinion of those they represent...
don't get me wrong tho' right now i'm supporting all our PMs!

Like they say, actions speak louder than words. When the stuff hit the fan, you were there, no questions asked. Everyone I know down here in Jersey knows that. And we know that it was the every day, run-of-the-mill Canadian working smuck that landed and taxied all those planes, and accomadated all those stranded travelers. We don't need your PM sitting in the house of congress to know of your support.
Just hope we can return the favor some day (but pray the circumstances are different).

| reply to mudchucker My take? I posted about Canada's Armed Forces Peacekeepers a few days ago here. Our military is nothing compared to what it should be.
As for our PM, the only reason he is our PM is because of the split of votes between Canadian Alliance and Conservative parties. I have never vote for the man as I have no faith in his leadership abilities.
I could go on more about our Armed Forces, as I know what is wrong from inside, but I won't. I'm not upset that Bush didn't mention us, but I am upset with Jean Cretien, and with the overall state of the military in Canada. -- DSL Reports Distibuted Computing Clubs Put your unused clock cycles to work! |

| reply to mudchucker I think that in times like this petty political preferences should be set aside in favour of the principals of our Great nations, both in Canada and the US.
Look at the cohesion of our countries coming together as one to divert air traffic to safety and close down North American Airspace. . . not to mention the readiness of all hospitals and emergency crews to assist on given notice.
Such things don't happen by themselves, they happen through massive amounts of planning, preparation and communications between all levels of leadership in our two nations in case that such terrible events occur.
That shows the bond and support that our countries have for each other whenever we are faced with crises.
When the call comes, Canada will be there 100% and to that there is no question. -- Money is never actually wasted, some lessons just come at a higher cost more than others. |

Has anybody seen or heard from the following "leaders" of Canada, apparently missing since last Tuesday?
Elinor Caplan, Minister of Immigration Wanted: to answer questions about Canada's lax immigration and refugee policies. Her office said she was out of the country on "other business" all last week, but so far, she has not offered any support, news, or commentary since the crisis began.
American reports have been extremely critical of Canada's immigration laws. The New York Post ran the headline, "Canada Border a Terror Seive" on Sunday.
Early rumours were that some of the terrorists took a ferry from Nova Scotia to Maine last Monday.
The attempted millenium bombing of LAX, the airport in Los Angeles, was planned by an Islamic refugee claimant who drove from Montreal to Vancouver, and was subsequently arrested attempting to cross the border into Seattle. Ahmed Ressam had been ordered deported, but lived freely in Montreal building his bomb, supported by Canadian taxpayers.
Clearly, Canada will have to re-evaluate its immigration and refugee practices. Unfortunately, Caplan has "gone to ground," just like the terrorists this country already unwittingly harbours.
Art Eggleton, Minister of Defence Wanted: to answer questions about Canada's role in NATO, and planned military response to last week's attacks. Apparently, the minister was out of the country last week on "other business" as well.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has, for the first time in its fifty-two year history, enacted "Article 5," which states that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members.
If our American neighbours are at war, then as members of NATO, so are we. Where the *$&@ is our defence minister?
If you have any information on the whereabouts, opininons, or actions of the above two people, please e-mail me. I'm curious, as are all Canadians. Where are our leaders in this crisis? From About.com -- DSL Reports Distibuted Computing Clubs Put your unused clock cycles to work! |
