| [Connectivity] Question
I live in an apartment complex that at this time of year is at about half capacity. I have some wannabe gangsta idiots that live above me, they are obnoxious, loud little brats. I have had comcast HSI for 3 solid years with great service. I have a general idea of when the idiots above me got HSI, since that time I have had serious lag during peak hours and sometimes (but rarely) on off peak hours. I am not on a wireless router or modem so they are not leaching off me with a wireless card. There is a problem on campus with people in apartments basically turning their connection into a huge hotspot for large amounts of people to use. At first I thought this was not a problem since they are capped on bandwidth, then I realized something. My question: If they have uncapped their modem can they eat up all the bandwidth with one connection?
I cannot get comcast to lift a finger to fix this problem, if this is the problem. I can't even get comcast to acknowledge a problem, but I can no longer play on xbox live or PC games without substantial lag and I get bad slowdown during the day browsing. Might this be my problem and if so, what options do I have?
Thanks. |

·Comcast
| reply to knoxvillenew I doubt they could have uncapped a modem...
But if they are running PTP networks or something similar they could be using their cap limits near 100% of the time.
Either way I doubt Comcast it going to even look into it unless you can prove your signal levels are off or your speeds are down.
Maybe try using non Comcast DNS servers?

| The comcast techs suggested this was the problem so I didn't just dream this up, they say this is why all the nodes are maxed out. I speculated about the uncapped modem though, they just explained how people are sharing one account through 5-6 apts or more and overloading everything. |

| reply to knoxvillenew I would more easily believe that the node you're on is at max before I would believe that someone uncapped.
Best course of action, document everything. Speeds, times, pings, etc...
Build a case and send it to Comcast on Asheville Hwy. Maybe you can turn them towards some plant upgrades in the vicinity of your place... -- Thanks to Darwinism, I'll always have a job... | Proudly serving since 1997 |
