1 edit | reply to danf danf: I agree that many (telus) tech support (not all!) at these call centers really hav no clue on what they are talking about.
If you have a high upload usage due to BT, they always attribute that to the first cause of connection problem / issues. I was even once told that the tech guy could see 'many other computers attempting to connect to my connection'... despite the fact that the modem was OFF. Plus, if he was indeed seeing that, it seems that he has contracted a breach of security by bypassing my firewall etc (like he could in the first place...)
I really HATE it when I get someone like that... it really is a luck of the draw.
On the other hand, techs that get sent out my places are at least much more knowledgable and respectful. |

| reply to cruix quote: I got a call from someone in Primus Network Security today.
She said I have about 100 hours of usage in September and that is considered abuse of the unlimited usage plan.
100 hours???? WHAT??? that's 3 hours a day.
Guys, I really don't know what's going on with Primus.
i dunno about you guys, but i think telus is behind all these bandwidth overusage letters/calls.. after all, primus is using telus' adsl ports. |

Actually that is currently a problem with Bittorrent. After you have shut off your Bittorrent client, and even after you have turned off your modem, you will continue to see incoming Bittorrent connection attempts to your IP address for up to 24 hours. I don't know why - it could be some trackers or some clients are not following a sensible policy of retiring dead links, or it could be ongoing tracking attempts by nefarious monitoring organizations. |

tumble: I have contacted Primus at least a half a dozen times and not even once did they even *hint* at the possibility of the message being spam. Well my conversation with customer service was pretty quick, I asked them if I was being canned and they said no, that there were no notes under my account saying I was being suspended, and if I were they would definitely know and would have called me up to warn me first. Then they transfered me over to tech support to double check, spoke to the tech, showed him the email, and he said it was clearly spam and that it wasn't the first time they came across such an email. |

| Thats what they told me too in 3 departments 4 days later i got phone call saying my internet is gonna be suspended because i downloaded over 110gb in september.I asked him well everyone in primus is saying its unlimited,do you know what that means ? Silence ...Then he told me someone will contact me (they didnt.So i called telus,explained my problem they offered me enhanced service 80gb max download (thats still better then 50 gb shaw) so i took it.I just wish i live somewhere else in regards to ISP's because they are acting so stupid.I know they are paying for the bw but why almost everyone else in the world got unlimited download + 100000 bonuses when you sign up with them.SO really the best what you can get is TELUS (if you download too much) or shaw,but whats 50gb on 7mbit line? its nothing . ....just my 2 cents |

| reply to danf i thought it was a 60gig cap for the enhanced package. At least thats what they print.
I don't thikn any of us have figured out at what point they send out the threats (100gigs maybe).
but if its a choice between 7pmbs and a 50 gig cap (which in alot of areas can be pushed further) or 2.5mpbs and a 60gig cap. I dunno.. 10 gig difference, it isn't that much, and telus is so god damn slow. The only thing they had going for them was unlimited bandwidth and no p2p throttling. Now all they have is no p2p throttling, and there slow, unless you live in metro vancouver where cable sux, telus is becoming obscelete. |

| yes,you are right ...its 60gb but it can be pushed further but its cheaper,and consistent,i get 260kb/s doesnt matter what time i do connect.Shaw is faster but the speed isnt consistent,its more expansive and 50gb cap. IMO Telus is winner.The only good thing what i do like about shaw is top notch customer service. |

| reply to danf just back to follow up on my previous post.
Well, lo and behold, the person that I was supposed to talk to today was conveniently "out of office" for the day. Strangely enough the number given to me was a general number for a certain "London Telecom".
and the saga continues.
guess i'll have to be a nice little pigeon and settle with 60 gig a month from telus. can anyone verify if they notify you after 100 gigs or 200 gigs on the enchanced plan? I know i got notices from then when I went over 100 gigs back on the regular plan. |

| reply to danf I am on the Telus server plan (80GB) and get a notice when I go over 100GB. My Primus connection is my 2nd ISP that I use for my daily use.
I'm currently on hold for Primus again... this time it said I could be waiting a half hour. |

| reply to sered i'm went to 3web, so see if i could stay under shaw's radar for a while by going through a 3rd party.
however i was about to say shaw isn't more expensive, but i just noticed that it is by a few dollars. 3web's a bit cheaper i guess.
still i'm pretty indifferent between shaw and telus. Telus only marginally made their caps higher then shaw. Its not much of a difference. Where I live my shaw speeds are pretty consistent, from what i'm noticing. I know if you live in Vancouver, is so congested, that its hard to get good speed. but i'm pull almost 600k/s down from newsgroups anytime of day compare to 260k/s on telus. I miss the uploading speed for the torrents, but that extra download speed, its sure nice to hypothetically nab a dvd in just over 2 hours.
i guess telus and shaw continue to both suck, I now own a cable modem and telus modem, and will probably just go back and forth as one kicks me off, i'll go back to the other, and mix in some 3rd parties in there |

@primus.ca
| reply to danf Well after waiting what felt like hours on hold, I finally got a customer services rep on the phone. They did confirm it is indeed too much bandwidth usage, but they would not specify if it was upload or download. I was also told it will be followed up by [someone in] another department. As I only did 90GB last month, I'm going to have to find my Shaw modem and go with extreme until I can get Primus to release the port. Then I'll get another Telus server connection with 80GB (which I can stay around.) Curse having a popular website... I have to have one modem dedicated to it. My wallet is crying already.
I'm guessing Telus/Uniserve is cracking down on Primus for using too much bandwidth. I guess it was just a matter of time. However, their unlimited download statement is a blatant lie. I'm assuming now anyone going over 100GB will get that notice (while I used 90GB last month, I think the month before was ~130GB.) I guess I should call Shaw now.
goodtea: Go to »adsl-reg.uniserve.com/, enter your phone number and access number. The access number is not the same as your account number and you will have to call Primus to get it. |

How much did you upload last month? I am curious. |

@primus.ca
| reply to danf NickDellhall: it's not impossible for them to see packets intended for your modem at their gateway (even if your modem is off.) I can't speak for other trackers, but the one I use has a trash collector for stale peers that purges them after 2.5x the requested interval. I can't speak for other trackers or clients... they may not do this and so you could have someone still persistently trying your IP days afterwards.
Squall_Leon: I checked, last month was 90GB total, 63 down and 27 up. Not that huge (at least I don't think so.) I know some people that leave theirs on all the time and they upload that in less than 2 days. And their ISP doesn't get mad at them. They aren't anywhere near here though.... maybe I should move where ISPs suck less (imo they all suck, some just suck less than others. ) |

| This is absolutely outrages, Primus website says no cap on downloads so why are they sending out warnings/suspension notices to people who downloads/uploads a measly 100GBs? Hire a lawyer and sue their ass off.
danf being an unregistered user makes his statements incredible at best. Besides, his statement about suspension is the first I have heard. I am sure there are a lot of Primus users out there that downloads more than 100GBs yet they haven't complained. |
