I just did a bandwidth test and I'm only getting 1.1mbit/sec. I haven't actually tried downloading anything though... I rarely see > 135 or so when I do.

RE: Changes to Your DSL Account

Dear ........

As previously communicated on November 14th, 2005, in order to continue to offer our DSL Internet service to all of our customers at a competitive rate, Primus Canada is implementing a cap on our DSL offering in British Columbia and Alberta.

Effective December 15th, 2005 we will be implementing a 50GB bandwidth cap per month for DSL subscribers within British Columbia and Alberta. Additional traffic over the 50GB limit will be charged at $2.95 per GB for each full and partial GB used. You will see these additional charges on your next invoice under "Other Charges and Credits".

In order to give you the ability to monitor your bandwidth usage, we will be implementing automated emails to keep you up-to-date on your progress throughout the month at specific usage intervals. You may also view your current bandwidth usage at: »dslusage.primus.ca/, at anytime. Simply enter your phone number, then Primus email address and password to login.

Beginning December 15th, 2005, you will be responsible for any additional charges resulting from bandwidth usage beyond 50GB within your Primus DSL account. Your account will be temporarily suspended at the 50GB level pending your confirmation of these charges. As well, any violation of your Acceptable Use Policy may result in suspension or permanent disconnection of your DSL account.

You can view the Acceptable Use Policy at »www.primus.ca/en/legal/aup.htm and the Terms and Conditions at: »www.primus.ca/en/legal/termsofuse.htm, both of which govern your service.

Should you have any questions in regards to these changes, please e-mail us at support@primus.ca or call us at 1-800-370-0015.

Sincerely,

Residential Internet Service
Primus Canada

Damn, now I have to drop these buggers and go back to telus. With my usage of 80GB I wouldn't have even had a warning, nevermind a $3/GB overusage charge.

80GB - 50GB(limit) = 30GB

30GB * $3/GB = $90 extra

You could get a Telus Server 2.5 package (80GB/mo) for that price.. or several High Speed Enhanced packages.

:P

Not just that, I just checked the usage screen and I know it's incorrect and understated.

I couldn't even keep tabs on myself if I wanted to. It says I didn't do any downloading for a few days when I know I did some.

That's what I had (Server 2.5) before I switched over to this "unlimited" ISP. I even paid $125 to bring in a phone line. Honestly, if I knew there was a 50GB cap I would have stuck with Shaw (same cap, hell of a lot faster - and I wouldn't have had to bring in an extra phone line.)

This is where it pays to read the EULA, the unlimited bandwidth is usually trumped by "services may change" clauses most of these services use.

$3/GB - that is hefty.

I'm quite glad that I never did switch to Primus

I guess Primus pulled the classic bait and switch.

yeah but u know whats even worse.
is when i tried to cancel the service.
there not letting you do it till 30days is up.

which i cant find anywhere on there website where it says that.

trying to get my line clear for another provider.
and primus are be'ing pricks.

when i dropped telus back in the spring it took like
24 hours to disconnect the service.

this is nothing but a cash grab on primus behalf!

just switch to Shaw or 3web for a month
I think you can even get a free month from Shaw

Well, I just called them and they told me it was added up by the billing cycle. So basically, the page tells me I sit at 40GB usage for the last 6 days of my billing cycle so I don't want to risk going over. The tech recommended I *not* go over in this current billing cycle.

Not only that, they are going to disconnect it next month. It's a good thing my billing cycle resets in a couple days, at least I'll get some use out of it. Argh.

Oh, I cancelled already. I've already got Shaw hooked up, but I'll be able to use Primus until the 15th of next month, then I can look around for ISPs again.

It is not really account #. You have to use the activation code that Primus mailed to you with the modem.

Yeah I know that now. Called the tech support. It really sucks I have to wait for 30 days. Apparently they "THEN" send the prepaid stuff to send the modem back. Stupid ISP... I had to wait so long for them to hook it up and now this crap?

Now I have to wait for 22nd to start download 'cause already gone over 50gig. They told me it started on 15th so they probably wouldn't charge anyone if they went over before getting the letter but it will for sure start the in the next billing cycle. So have to wait till 22nd which is another month('cause of they stupid policy), use 50gig and get Shaw hooked to hooked up then go back to Telus. So much hassle... I really really really would like to get Sympatico here in the west even though it cost a bit more. Damnit...
