They cant get away with it. Any good Lawyer can get you off.
I use Pre-Paid Legal, its a monthly charge of $21.00. You basically have a laywer on hand anytime you need it.
For thoses of you that are being charged I would think about it.
Primus made a Mistake on that Letter they send us. If you still have it then go read the third Paragraph. It States, they will be sending you emails keeping you up to date on your usage. I myself have never had one of these emails. I have never been emailed my account usage. I never have been able to check my usage because My account number does not work on there download usage site. (mine really does not work) I just figured I would wait untill I got my emails from Primus telling me where Iam at.
Now Thats it, a Lawyer will be able to fight Primus with that. Iam going to cancel Primus, if they try to Charge me I will get my laywer on them. And dont forget, with pre-paid. You dont pay. You only pay 21.00 a month. Its worth it. I have used it a few times.
I will keep you posted On what happens when I quit Primus.
Those of you that are being charged, Go pay your 21.00 and get the laywer on them. Theses Lawyers are based out in Van, theres a Team of them. They do alot of ICBC cases. These are the Lawyers

if you wanna be sure, don't sign up online.. call them up. |

| reply to Anomalous I don't think a lawyer is even necessary in my case, my contract says unlimited downloads and they didn't inform me of any change as they are required. If I hire a lawyer it wouldn't be to get me "off" it would be to spank their asses for illegal business practices. Unfortunately the limit on your claims are small otherwise companies like Primus wouldn't go around doing this crap (might be bigger if its a class action civil suit but probably still not terribly attractive for most lawyers).
The prepaid legal thing is quite interesting though, never knew you could retain a lawyers service at that kind of price. Always handy to know if things get messy. |

If you're foolish enough to allow them to charge you.
For those of you that have either been threatened or billed excess charges by Primus you must immediately call your credit card company and block Primus Canada from debiting your account. This way you are the one in control.
For those of you that believe you may fall victim to this surcharge scam, you should immediately do the same. This way you can have your account billed instead. You now have control of your money. |

@primus.ca | reply to Anomalous I finally got through to primus. I gave them my one month notice. They never said anything about my usage. I noticed on my account that I owe the straight 27.00. I guess there only hitting a few people and not all. I guess we will see. |

1 edit | Whatever you do, don't put the Primus DSL modem inside the microwave oven for 2 minutes, before you ship it back to them. It might stop working after you get your $200 deposit back from Primus for the modem, and it gets handed to another customer. |

| Any tips on how to actually get the port disconnected by Primus - they have messed me around quite a bit on this I had a service cancellation date of Jan 30 (notice Dec 30) Anyway still connected with an active Internet account on the Primus web site on Feb 10, so I called in to standard CSR, explained
Anyway it was all apologies and intent to make it right until I said something like "can you make sure the port is disconnected also ASAP" - at that point, it was fairly obvious she knew very littleabout the steps required, and kept saying that should would send it to the TEch side for urgent disconnection. She seemed to get a bit irate, telling me that it was "good for you if you know these things", inferring she was in control
Anyhow, she made good on cancelling the account, the actual account was gone from their web-site the next day
However I am stilll connected 10 days later, can still download, and am getting meter reasdings from the Primus DSL usage site. How do I get through to CSR's who seem quite intolerant in order to get fully disconnected? or do I try Tech Support, if you can still get on directly
What a mess! Actually I'm now wondering whether I will have a ADSL connection forever if I say nothing, since I am gone from their ADSL billing list - hope they dont charge someone with a non-recognised connection $3/GB
Any ideas that have worked for you to actually get fully disconnected welcome Jeff |

| reply to jeffnoone Re: Primus Canada cracking down on usage?
I cancelled my Primus as soon as they called me about the overage of $383.71 for January. It has been 2 1/2 weeks since I disconnected, today I got call from their collections department. I told them that there is no way I'm paying their fraudulent bill and to never call me again. They said their lawyer would be calling.... I told him to F*** OFF...... |
