| Zyxel wireless bridge and x-550
I've had way too many problems with the Belkin pre-N networking equipment, and I'm thinking about trying out the X-550/M-102 hardware as an alternative. Only thing is I also need a compatible wireless bridge to use with my Slingbox (great toy if you're both a big TV watcher and do a lot of travelling, as I do).
It's a little hard to determine which of ZyXel's products is the appropriate one for this purpose. I know I could probably use a wireless bridge from another manufacturer instead, but in the hopes of making this as easy on myself as possible, I figured I would get all one "flavor" of equipment. So, I'm looking for suggestions on which ZyXel product would fill this bill. I assume that I can't just use a second X-550 to act as a wireless bridge--from what I've been able to determine, none of the pre-N/MIMO routers have this functionality (wish I knew why). |

| reply to SteelWheel Sorry for the sarcasm earlier, folks...just was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to get any help sooner.
Part of the reason why I posted here was that even the people at ZyXel seemed a little unsure as to how to direct me on this. LinkSys and D-Link seem to have products labelled specifically as "wireless bridges", which serve no other function, which makes it a little bit easier. However, no such product exists (from any manufacturer) in the new pre-N/Extreme Mimo arena.
I am also aware that most of the old "b" or "g" routers had the capability of being placed into "wireless bridge" only mode--again, none of the current pre-N/Mimo products seem to have this capability built into their firmware. Although I fail to understand why this is the case.
I did have a conversation with a ZyXel tech guy the other day, and he recommended one of their "G" model wireless bridges (the 1000, 2000, or 3000 models). The ZyXel guy I spoke to today recommended the P330W router. See why I got so confused and was hoping for some help here in the forums?
Anyway, I just ordered the X-550, an M-102 card for my laptop, and the P330W router, which I will hopefully be able to put into wireless bridge mode.
Wish me luck--if I have any problems, I hope somebody here will be able to help me out. |
