Re: FedEx

I trust UPS Ground (and they're garbage) more than Fedex Ground. They can never get my house right (new construction) and I've seen packages go to my house number without a 1 on it. Frustrating.

FedEx Sends all packages (except ground shipping) to Memphis. Every single one. Doesn't matter if it is only going next door. It first goes to Memphis.
That may be true for next day delivery items, but I'm positive I've gotten a few 2nd day and 3-day saver shipments that routed through Indy and not Memphis.

FedEx has a delivery guarantee to honor, and if that means routing through a major hub several states away, that's how they do it. Trusting a next day package to the ground folks isn't very smart...

...then again, trusting ANY package to FedEx Ground or Home Delivery is a tremendous leap of faith!

Actually it is Indianapolis now.

If I remember correctly, Memphis is one of their major hubs. So they'll send the packages to memphis (one plane to memphis) then forward your package to another destination and then for delivery.
This is correct, according to a guy I work with...If you want to send something overnight, say from NY to California, it goes NY to Memphis, Memphis to CA.

Sometimes it's quicker/cheaper for them to ship it to another location then ship it somewhere else.

Is there any reason for FedEx to send my package (a Motorola V551 from Cingular....insurance replacement) to Tennessee when it was already in Texas, and they could have just sent it to the Lafayette, LA sorting center, where it would have gone anyway? Does it make sense?
