 Home Office Computers

Our small company has 12 people who work from Home-Offices. They use their personal computers, with technical and financial support from the company. However, this has turned out to be an unsuccessful strategy in terms of computer security.

So we intend to buy laptop computers (Home XP) for use with the company's propriety software. We plan to configure each laptop as generally recommended by this Forum. And then regularly complete a security check of each Home-Office laptop computer.

1. Is there a way to configure Internet Explorer, Firefox or the computer so that the laptop browsers only have access to the company's website? Perhaps use of a software firewall?

2. Failing an option for #1, what is a fairly secure method to totally block browser access to the Internet, yet allow access for email?

As always, I sure appreciate this Forum and we will study all suggestions and recommendations. Thank you.

So basically you want to ensure that
a. at the office they do not connect to the internet
b. at home/on the road they do not connect to the internet??

Meant browsing, can still check Email.

If you set the DNS server settings to a garbage IP address, 127.0.0.1 and edited the HOSTS file to include what you do want them to have access to, i.e. company locations. It may work as the computer would only be able to resolve company sites. Understanding of course basic troubleshooting of an IP connection would find these. Also any changes to the company site IP addresses would require the HOSTS file on all machines be updated.
