| Help, a problem!
My RR highspeed internet was working fine this morning, and then, by accident, I flipped the switch on my surge protector. I restarted it, and nothing that requires access to the internet works. I tried to disconnect the ethernet cable, and also the power from the box. Neither worked. I went into command and renewed my IP and it still doesn't work. It tells me that I'm connected, but any program I've tried (AIM, IE, Firefox, MSN messenger, etc.) tells me that I'm not connected to the internet.
I share service with my neighbor, and I'm on his computer right now. His internet works fine, so I know it has to do with my computer or components. Any tips?
This is incredibly frustrating! |

| When you flipped the awitch, did you turn off your PC? Since neighbor can access internet, cable/DSL modem is fine. If you are using a router, the router is fine too. So the only problem is your PC. When you turn it off, what was running in your PC. Can you do a system retsore to like yesterday (assuming you are using XP)? |

| reply to Blake Steve That's very odd.
Power everything down from modem to router (if any) to the computer.
Then work from the outside in.
Turn on the modem ... wait for about 120 seconds ... then move to the next item down the line ... ... waiting 1-2 minutes for the connection to stablize before moving on.
In my house, it would be 1. Modem 2. Router 3. Wireless Bridge 4. Computers -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA ... How much spam would a spam clan spam if the CAN-SPAM could can spam? ... |

| reply to ChiTang When I flipped the surge protector switch the power to everything related to my computer was cut. When I turn my computer back on, the yellow icon with the exclamation point pops up, says 14% downloaded (updates, I assume). It never download more, but then it says that I'm connected. It's peculiar. I guess that means that my computer was downloading updates when I flipped the switch.
System restore is something I haven't tried yet, I'll go try right now...
Thanks.
Okay, I'll try these tips and let you guys know in a min... |

| reply to Blake Steve When you ipconfig/renew you IP, do you actually get one within the same subnet. If you can, then at least you are connected to the router at a physical level and obtaining an IP is not a problem. Search the FAQ in this site for WINSOCKFIX. It is a util that will rebuilt your TCP/IP sockets. It may help and if it does not. You are in no worse position than you are now. |
