DVR issues...

I've got the dual tuner motorola DVR. Anyone else have problems recording two things at the same time? I had my DVR set to tape the Amazing Race and Earl on the HD NBC. Amazing Race was fine, but when I switched tuners to make sure Earl was taping, the screen froze. I could flip back to the other tuner but when I flipped it nbc HD it was still frozen. I checked the recording and it was there but it didn't contain any show. I cancelled the recording and changed channels and went back to nbc and it was fine.

This has happened a few times in the past. Because of this, I usually check both tuners when recording two things and have been able avoid this problem. Of course, this defeats the purpose of recording something. I shouldn't have to check on it. This problem coupled with the NBC problem I had on Sunday is driving me nuts. How can one company suck so bad?

Re: DVR issues...

This really isn't an Insight problem per say. It's a Motorola issue. I've not had time to check any other forums to see if everyone is reporting similar problems as many of us in this forum have reported. But I think the general consensus is that a Motorola firmware update screwed some things up. I think it has been posted that a fix is supposed to be on the way.

I've seen many odd issues with this box the past few weeks. Stuff has occurred that we didn't see when we first got it at our old house. And things that had run smooth since getting it setup in our new home. Are no longer running as smooth as they once did. But most of the problems have been kind of hit and miss. No real consistency.

Is it normal to not be able to switch channels if you hit the record button while watching a program? If I schedule what I want to record through the DVR menu i can channel surf with no problems, but if I just hit record while watching the program I get the box asking if I want to stop recording or change the channel.

Does everyone else's box do this? If so... why?

This has happened to me also. If you are only recording one program and that message pops up just push the swap button near the bottom of the remote and it will switch tuners and then you can change channels w/o any problems.

Kind of an annoying bug but after you figure it out it is pretty easy to get around.

Re: DVR issues...

Very nice! I'll give this a try tonight, we have been struggling with this "feature" since the new box arrived.

Please forgive me if this has been covered in another thread as I am a newby, but does the new DVRs that insight is providing allow you to tape something and dump it to a vcr. My son is away at college and has requested that I record a program for him that he can view when he is home at Thanksgiving.

Thnks for any help,

Avdad

Re: DVR issues...

Well, you could leave it on the DVR until he gets home and let him watch it then. Unless space becomes an issue.

I transfer certain films for my parents from the DVR over to VCR tapes often. I just start to play the DVR show and hit the record button on the VCR
