| fios AGAIN?
I've known about this for almost a year now and I'm almost positive its been posted here already Why is Fios still popping up here Sure it'd be great to have it but seriously what percentage of us are actually going to get serviced within the next 10 years if EVER? Not many in my head The whole country is not as affluent or densely populated as New Jersey, New York, and parts of Texas Pittsburgh has millions of people and as far as i know still without fios
So lets explore what BBR has covered on Fios.. They've dung through other companys lines to place theirs, They will not hook you up with copper afterwards, They have plans for 5/2 15/2 30/5, They will/have start(ed) their own TV service Verizon uses Hummers to promote it,
Now what ELSE can be SQUEEZED out of these topics?! For god sakes LET IT DIE ALREADY! -- "Hows your French toast?" "Smelly and ungrateful, but this AMERICAN toast is great!" | | rec9140 Provoice just DO it

BZZZTT! Thanks for playing, Vanna, show are contestant their lovely departing gifts....
Fios deploymet in Pgh: »FiOS in Pittsburgh, PA
Even if they did start in "Blue Devil" county. BOO HISS! Panthers still have Blue Devils for lunch!
VZ will eventually REPLACE 100% its ancient copper network.
Is it soon enough for ME? Not even close. I chase VZ crews all over the area watching them in my work travels for work daily. I see watch for new telco pedestals and huts etc.. Ready willing and able to deply the fiber from my end DITCH WITCH or better at the ready.
Does the Fios deployment/replacement have ulterior motives. Sadly YES, and its going to be Covad and similar ILEC's. As one poster pointed out I look for a FIRE SALE on a copper network to the some one who has some DEEP pockets IF any of the CLEC's are still around. Probably not. At least in the Tampa area VZ IS getting competing ISP's to offer services via fiber, some with better services, ie DHCP v. PPPOE, Static IP's etc..
If I though I would get Fios Data installed one second sooner I would be out there digging a trench with my HAND SHOVEL right now!
The cooper issue plays a part as I have ISDN lines and UNLESS/UNTILL Fios is available at the site(s) thats the only real choice those cooper wires are not going to be touched, and I have some S & W hardware to back that up.
One thing I am curious about with the PON network IF I say provide my own power to the ONT will the data wavelength continue assuming theres not a cut or the CO can no longer feed it. Strictly if I have power (regardless of how I provide it) to the ONT does the data stay on? Voice, video could care less won't be coming from them. DBS and I don't need voice services. --

I am sure in places like mine with 200 houses per 10 sq miles they could not justify the costs of $2000 a house, although they are constantly repairing the lines around here it would make sense to do it strictly for maintenance costs alone. Honestly they probably wont/will not replace 70% or so of their territories, they want urban and suburban sprawls when they could be dominating the places with few to no broadband coverage
well regardless i doubt that there is any substantial development in Pittsburgh, i havent read anything to say otherwise. Just skimming over those posts i think i read maybe 1 street thats under development -- "Hows your French toast?" "Smelly and ungrateful, but this AMERICAN toast is great!" | |
