| Best way to notify users of important updates, etc
I have been thinking about a way to update users of important events and news.. ie in the case of an outage, when the system does come back up I would like them to know why.
What I have been thinking is a way to redirect traffic in a one time shot for each user.
so for example.
the network goes down, and come back up. The first page they go to after the system has come back up takes them to an explanation page which they then click "continue" button to take them to the internet as normal, and they never see that message again. this way everyone gets informed with a one time redirect.
Are there any solutions for this type of notification already? I could always just post it on the web site, but I think it would be useful to be able to let everyone see it at least once so they can feel like they're being updated with the status.

Afterwords we send an email to the customers in the sector involved explaining the outage. |

hmm.. many different ways to approach this..

That is what I was thinking. Keep it hush hush and as few people know as possible. Don't shout it out to everyone everytime it breaks. It's a better perception of quality of service when they don't know it's down. |

| I'd argue the exact opposite. There's very little that's more frustrating to them and I doubt that there's anything short of frequent prolonged outages that will make customers more unhappy than trying to cover up issues. If you say there was a problem and they didn't even notice it they think it's great. IF they did then they know why. If you're honest about it when it does happen then you're far less likely to have people bad mouthing the stability of your setup..... unless you do have frequent prolonged problems - then maybe you need to look at your processes, procedures and engineering. -- www.gozoom.ca |

I think it would depend on what goes down--if it is the backbone (which is what happens about once a year) then the wireless side would be intact and a redirect to a web page on the wireless side may work during the outage.
We try and set all customers on our web-page and post info on that, for outage info. The best of both worlds,,as we let them know, and the ones who do not notice,,won't look. -- Success is getting what you want; Happiness is wanting what you get. |
