I wish

I wish Verizon was in my area.. I'm be all over this Fios.

I wonder if you can run your own personal email / webserver with Fios.. My guess is that it would be frowned upon.

Anyone know for sure?

That is an EXCELLENT cable lineup.

No CSTV, but just about everything else!

I believe they block those ports to force you onto a business-class solution such as: »biz.verizon.net/pands/fios/features.asp.

FIOS blocked ports

The techs (all of them) told me I could run whatever I want. No ports blocked. The only downside: no static IP available for residential service in my area.

We just upgraded to business 15Mb/2Mb with 5 IP's and a much better SLA, which is $99/mo (up from $45/mo residential) plus a $300 AdTran router. The install is on the 25th. Very much looking forward.

I deployed a JMPP (Jive Messenger) server for the house today, will be able to provide encrypted chat to all my Mac users, worldwide (they travel a lot), including audio chat, with no extra configuration.

Sweet.
