| Wordpress...I need some input, please My daughter is starting a business and is going to have someone setting up several websites for her. She sent me the following:
"Do you know anything about "WordPress?" If not, do you think you might ask your DSL friends what they think and anything else helpful to pass along? I believe it will be an integral component in my new websites and I am attempting to learn as much as possible to ask appropriate questions of the company assisting in the creation of both sites."
I know nothing about Wordpress and know that it has been mentioned here having done a search, but I didn't find much about it - technically, security, and otherwise. I am not sure what she wants to know, but if anyone has anything, good and bad, to say about it, I would appreciate your taking the time to post in this thread. I will pass on whatever you have to say to her.
Thanks, guys and gals. -- JKK Age is a very high price to pay for my maturity. If I can't stay young, I can at least stay immature!

| Re: Wordpress...I need some input, please It's a great blogging platform: I use it for one of my blogs. Once you've installed it (really simple) in the server, it's ready to go. I think to WP as the "Firefox" of the publishing tools, as you can customize it thanks to a virtually endless number of plugins (and templates) available around the web. The GUI is as user friendly as it could be, and (the most important thing IMO) the whole project is supported by a great community (ready to help users in the forums) and developers (when a security flaw is found, expect an update really soon).
Oh, well, it's free and Open Source
A good starting point is »www.wordpress.org

| Re: Wordpress...I need some input, please I think they fix this now but you need to watch out for things like this when you install any script that uses php or cgi. »news.netcraft.com/archives/2004/09/30/.. well, it's quite like Firefox and Thunderbird: new bugs are discovered (and promptly fixed) every now and then... Of course, installing every plugin/script found around the web isn't a safe practice -- »spaghettitech.blogspot.com | |

| Wordpress is primarily a blogging program but it falls under the Content Management category of applications. You can use it as the main driver for a web site if the functionality you want to provide fits well in their architecture.
»www.cachingcentral.com is a pretty out of the box WordPress site I run. I primarily just add new articles (posts) and it allows for others to comment on it.
You might want to ask this same question, or have this thread moved, to the »Webmasters and Developers forum. What would be real helpful is if your daughter could provide you (and then us) with more info on what her site will be and maybe why someone is recommending she use WordPress. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter
