| reply to rcilink Re: [PAP2] Unlocking Guide - revised
In order to be compliant with the sipura marketing team, here is a revised method to unlock your PAP2 device:
1. download the SPAtools.ZIP file from this post. (Unzip them into a clean folder) 2. download the SPA2000 firmware from the sipura.com site 3. run the following command (from DOS): spa2pap2 spa2000.bin pap2unl.bin 4. follow the instructions on the first page to get this "pap2unl.bin" firmware upgrade into your PAP2. 5. Browse to your PAP2 web page and click ADMIN / ADVANCED. 6. Click PROVISION tab and set to OFF. 7. Click SAVE. 8. download the PAP2 firmware from your authorized Linksys PAP2 representative. 9. run the following command (from DOS): pap22spa PAP2-rom-3-1-3.bin PAP2-fixed.bin 10. Upgrade the firmware on your PAP@ to the PAP2-fixed.bin 11. Done!
The attached ZIP file does NOT conatain any firmware. Instead, it contains a Win32 program, made available publicly by its author, for use by PAP2 owners. Sipura, Linksys or Cisco do not own these tools, and have no authority to restrict access to them.
These tools are intended to help a Linksys PAP2 owner manage their equipment. Anyone who mis-uses these tools is completely liable for their actions.
It sucks that we have to be that 'legal-ish' here, but since mr. sipura requested it, here it is..

| Well - while waiting for 3.1.9 Admin password unlocking guide I figured maybe it would be possible to port forward all the ports coming to and from Pap2 to my Asterisk server. Then if I was able to capture the packets going back and forth then I would see the sip registration info which then could be used to setup an extension in the Asterisk server. Anyone see a flaw in this thinking, and if you do, do you have a suggested work-around? |

Do you mean from DOS window? Or do I have to boot to DOS?
TIA |

| reply to rcilink I have a problem with unlocking the pap2. I have the tftp server setup, I reset my pap2 with the **** procedure, I have configured the pap2unl.bin and PAP2-fixed.bin. I have followed all the instructions stated in all the forums. But when asked to "modify the link to show (in your web browser!): »192.168.1.5/upgrade?tftp:////192···unl.bin"
I can go no further. The pap2 web interface ask me to "Please type the User Name and Password that you use for pap admin", but the password that I put in (1234) does not work. My software version in 3.1.8(LS), hardware version 0.03.4 |

1 edit | said by reekotubbs :My software version in 3.1.8(LS), hardware version 0.03.4 The PAP2 unlocking guide that mostly everyone used came out on the evening of 9/26/2005 and its success depends heavily on the USER MODE firmware upgrade option. Since then, Linksys has been forced by Vonage (at least this is what I see it) to release new PAP2 firmware that doesn't support a USER MODE firmware upgrade. The latest firmware that still supports for a USER MODE firmware upgrade is v3.1.6 and it was released days before the PAP2 unlocking guide was out. Your PAP2 has a v3.1.8 firmware and therefore it can't be unlocked using the existing PAP2 unlocking guide. I suggest that you return this product back to the merchant where you bought this from and find another one that has a firmware v3.1.6 or older.
OT: (some nasty thought !)
May be we all should launch a counter campaign against Linksys by buying a PAP2 that comes with a firmware newer than v3.1.6, brick it, and return to the store to get our money back. Eventually all these bricked PAP2 units will be returned back to Linksys. This way, Linksys will be overwhelmed by such a surge and decides to re-enable the USER MODE firmware upgrade and the heck with Vonage. |

My software version in 3.1.8(LS), hardware version 0.03.4 There was an earlier post, maybe in another thread, that described how to carefully let your PAP2 connect to vonage to get the new XML file that tells your PAP2 that there is a newer version to upgrade to. After it get's the first XML file, you must disconnect the device from the internet and then setup an internal network with a custom DNS that says the website to download the newest version is actually on your internal network. This gets pointed to a file called 3.1.9 when it is really 3.1.6 or lower. The box will do the upgrade and when it reboots, it will have a lower version that you can hack. |

@125.24.x.x | Should this method work for 3.1.9.Lsc also? or I will have to wait for the next firmware update? |

I tested on 3.1.9Lsc by using VuckFonage to retrieve the xml file then place on my tftp box, having ls.tftp.vonage.net pointed to it. The PAP2 then doenloaded that encrypted spa$MAC.xml. After that I had it rebooted again. What I found out was that my PAP2 did not request for any other file and thus impossible to unlock. |
