The music industry is a joke. They wonder why music isn't selling and then blame it on downloaders. How about if you here the same drivel 80 times a day on the radio you're not about shell out your hard earned cash for it. I hope their greed runs them out of business alltogether.

Apple is a hardware and software manufacturer, not a music distribution company. Yes, the iTunes music store is a nicety to go along with the iPod, but it aint Apple's core business. People will still buy iPods if the ITMS went away tomorrow. People will still buy Macs, too. So... whatever, music industry--you are hurting yourselves more than you are hurting Apple. I think that's wonderful!

And the record companies are so greedy that they believe they are entitled to a share of the iPod *hardware sales* too! Um, why? Did they put R&D into it? Did they market it? No. God, their greed is astounding! They should be kissing Jobs' ass in gratitude for the iPod giving them MORE sales.

As for the subscription music services, they are about the lamest thing ever. Why pay to "rent" a song? That's worse than buying an overpriced CD, IMO. And none of them work on Macs, so they have just blown off a large portion of users who are likely to actually be interested in their product.

Looks like congress needs to start exploring regulation of the music industry. Wont happen unless we stop electing crooks who take money from the riaa.

I don't know whats worse, that you think current music is so friggin important (or good) that the government needs to regulate it or that you think government regulation will actually do what you want it to.

Ever hear of the ICC (set up to regulate the evil monopolist railroads back in the day, ended up slapping restrictions on everyone else once competitors arrived).

the music industry is like that mother who sues the MTA because the kid was messing around on the subway tracks and gets the 9 express between the eyes. only this time the train is the internet and the music industry is the kid. basicly you ride the train or get off the tracks if you try and stop it your in for a nasty and messy suprise. 15-20 years from now artists wont need the big companies anymore for the sale of music. equipment for mastering gets cheaper everyday and someday you wont need that expensive BMG suite in NYC when you can do the same quality in a garage converted into an acoustic chaimber.

I love how all the amateur critics here think its so easy for the artists to promote and most importantly distribute their own stuff. Obviously there's not one single person who truly understands the inner workings of the music industry.

Besides, not every label is pushing for a price increase...it's only one idiot at Warner Brothers making a lot of noise and I think Sony (who has their own motives obviously) You guys will jump at any chance to spread your "music should be free" and "all the srtists will drop the labels" and the "RIAA sucks" cr*p to no end. Fools...in 10 years everything you think you know about this argument will be all gone. And the Internet will not the final answer in speading the love of new music.
