A BIG Thanks to Matt for this one...
Follow these steps and your Linksys PAP2 will be unlocked. Provider settings do not get erased.
Several assumptions: 1. you can get to the WEB interface and set the USER password. 2. Ideally, the device has never downloaded updates, or talked to the provider. 3. You have a TFTP server setup on your network
For this example, Assumptions: PAP2 is at ip: 192.168.1.5 TFTP svr is : 192.168.1.110
OK, lets go for it:
1. Put the following two files in the TFTP root folder. 2. Disconnect from the Internet (avoids downloading cfg files) 3. Boot your PAP2 in your network. 4. Browse to the web page of the PAP2. 5. In SYSTEM, set a User password of 1234 6. Click the SAVE SETTINGS button. 7. Refresh the link (you login with user and 1234) 8. modify the link to show (http) http://192.168.1.5/upgrade?tftp://192.168.1.110/PAP2-SP2K.bin 9. Examine the status leds.. Power should turn RED when it is done. Give it a minute or two, dont interrupt it. 10. Once red, point browser at your PAP2. (our IP in this example is 192.168.1.5) 11. Click the "admin login" link near the top-right. 12. Click the PROVISIONING tab and set PROVISION ENABLE=NO. 13. Click SAVE SETTINGS. 14. Now, modify the link to show (http) http://192.168.1.5/upgrade?tftp://192.168.1.110/SP2K-PAP2.bin 15. Done. Your Linksys PAP2 will eventually reboot (2 blue LEDs) (BE PATIENT) and you can click the "admin login" near the top-right. No PW needed. This test uses specific firmwares.. These are not for any other use, so if you are looking for upgrade firmware for your PAP2, DO NOT assume that this will be them.. These are for unlocking your PAP2 unit.
Oh yeah. I was able to unlock two without any troubles.. your mileage may vary.
Again, Thanks Matt for all the work you put into making this possible.

Mazilo,
My PAP2-NA was supplied to me unlocked by my VoSP. It had firmware version 2.0.13. I just upgraded to version 3.1.10(LS)
I wonder if I should: - NEVER factory resetting - Turn provisioning OFF - any other precautions
I'm not sure if these rules apply only to hacked boxes or all PAP2's (even if they were suplied unlocked) ?
Pleased to hear | |

| Re: [PAP2] Unlocking Guide - said by gizmogameboy :My PAP2-NA was supplied to me unlocked by my VoSP. An ordinary PAP2-NA should be factory unlocked. Honestly, I don't really know if your VoSP has reprogrammed the PAP2-NA to its default configuration. If so, then after you factory reset this PAP2-NA, it will bring back its default configurations, a.k.a. Vonage locked PAP2, and if your VoSP has its default configuration opened then you can access its admin page without a password or the password given by your VoSP. Turning off the Provision feature is not a matter of yes or no. I believe you will first need to consult this with your VoSP to see if it will violate the TOS if you turn of the Provision features. -- Mazi (UK Non-Geo Phone: +44-703-194-2574) | |

| Re: [PAP2] Unlocking Guide - Mazilo
Thanks for your reply.
To clarify the issue: The PAP2-NA was sold to me at full price and was supplied unlocked. The VoSP (not Vonage) actually made me factory reset it during troubleshooting. I've factory reset it myself numerous times and have never had a problem accessing the admin or user logins. No conflict with the TOS.
The box was supplied with firmware version 2.0.13. I just upgraded to ver 3.1.10(LS) because I was having trouble with the older firmware.
My question is: Will the new firmware installed on the always unlocked box cause it to lock up if I factory reset it?
I ask this because most firmware upgrades refer to Vonage cracked boxes and specifically state not to do a factory reset on them. What happens to an always unlocked box if the firmware is upgraded and is then factory reset ?
Thanks again for the clarification.

What happens to an always unlocked box if the firmware is upgraded and is then factory reset ? This is right because the Linksys/Vonage locked PAP2 is factory configured to Vonage and Vonage doesn't give out the admin password. Therefore, every time the PAP2 is factory reset, it will bring back the factory default configurations which is locked with a different admin password. I don't have a PAP2-NA; however, IIRC the factory default configurations on a PAP2-NA has an empty admin password. As such, it's not locked. Linksys (or Vonage) only releases a single firmware for all PAP2 versions, i.e. PAP2, PAP2-NA, PAP2-UK, etc. Your question has been asked so many times in this thread with the answers. Since I don't have a PAP2-NA, I can't just tell you to go ahead to factory reset your PAP2-NA; however, you can judge it yourself from the above explanation logically. Worse comes to worst, have your VoSP replaced the PAP2-NA with another one. -- Mazi (UK Non-Geo Phone: +44-703-194-2574)

| Re: [PAP2] Unlocking Guide - Mazilo,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Found your posting which says
"A pap2-na (NA=North America) is not supposed to be locked/tied to any VoSP like a PAP2 is. That said, any PAP2 firmware released under Linksys is not supposed to lock a pap2-na unless the pap2-na is used to serve some VoSPs that remotely locked the unit (which can usually be unlocked by a factory reset). "
My unit is one of these units that was factory resettable and had no lock for admin / user logins. My question is now answered.
The reason I sometimes do a factory reset is to restore the unit to factory settings in case I change too many settings and do not what the default values are.

| said by gizmogameboy :- any other precautions If you still have service with them, it is best just not to mess with it. Also, if it was supplied unlocked it would also be best to work with them via support if you want to use the second line for other voip testing. Normally if it is unlocked from the provider, doing a factory reset will erase all their settings and you will have to start over with their help. Doing a factory reset is rarely needed because a reboot will fix most of the issues. | |

I tried the IVR 7932 option but I do not know the password. Please any suggestions . If you can try to first factory reset your PAP2 on an isolated LAN, this will definitely re-enable the web interface. Or, you can feed your PAP2 with a simplified and plain-text XML file that will enable web interface. The later approach has been discussed here numerously. Please take your time to read posts in this thread. You are not only going to find out your answer, but you will also learn a lot of the DOs and DON'Ts regarding your unlocked PAP2 unit! -- Mazi (UK Non-Geo Phone: +44-703-194-2574)

- If I then power down the unit and restart it I lose the IVR again. - If I dial **** from line 2 (which is the line I did not make codec changes) the unit reboots.
Not sure what is happening here

| Re: [PAP2] Unlocking Guide The PAP2 and PAP2-NA use identical firmware. The PAP2 has different NVRAM values burned into the device than the PAP2-NA which is why a Master Reset reverts the device back to a locked Vonage adapter.
I tried numerous combinations of trying to reset the adapter (both while in "Sipura" mode and "Linksys" mode, switching back 'n forth between the firmware flavors).
It "Sipura" mode, a master reset acted like all "default Sipura" settings were loaded; however, once switching back to "Linksys" firmware, it was a locked PAP2 Vonage adapter again.

| Re: [PAP2] Unlocking Guide Not sure if I understand your question, but the IP address of the adapter is whatever your router gave it through dhcp. By default, the PAP2 will get it's IP address dynamically. You need to look at the dhcp list in your router and it will tell you which IP addresses are being used. It will be one of those listed. Unless I am misunderstanding the question??? later... Mike... | |

I run tftp server on my laptop. unzip two files to tftp server root. then disconnect the internet from the router then connect the pap2 to the router. from my laptop, I can access the pap2's page at 192.168.2.3 my laptop's address is 192.168.2.4. add user's password 1234
step 1-8, no problem.
on step 9. before I upgrad the PAP2-SP2K.bin, the power led and network led are blue. after upgrad it, the power led flashes for about 10 second, then back to blue again. never turn red.
11. still ask for password for admin.
I am running tftp server download from here. I doubt the fireware is not updated. how can I check if my tftp server is running OK.
