My husband spoke with our bank today and they said he had two $24.99 charges from Digital Age based in Cypress. Because they were located in Cypress is what raised the flag. |

| I also got hit. Bank of America pisses me off. The girl I spoke to acted like I had some sort of account with these people. I said all you have to do is a searh on google and it's all over the net.
I even offered to send her a link to her email address but she didn't want it.
These people don't give a crap about it. All they care about doing is fixing the problem and hanging up.
She wanted me to call Cypress and dispute it, I laughed. She said do you happen to see a 10 digit number listed? I'm like no, nor would I call them and dispute with them.
I asked why she wanted me to do so. She said that it was to better inform the customers about how the system worked...

| reply to Doctor Olds I just found this topic by doing a Google search. I have also been charged $24.99 by "Digital Age". They charged me on 9-18-05. Until I found this topic, I just thought that it was a charge that I had forgotten about. I guess that's what they want you to think!!!! One of the anti-virus companies bills under the name of "Digital River" and I thought that is what this was for.
BUT there is more!! This week I was charged $9.95 by a company called Art Magic Inc.com Victoria CD. I did a search for that company and found this blog:
On that site dozen of people mentioned having been charged for both Arts Magic and Digital River. Many of them mentioned that they had used Amazon.com and Pay pal in the past. I have used Pay Pal so maybe that is where they got my number. |

| The reason why Amazon and Paypal are mentioned is because those are two of the largest online companies, therefor a high number of victims are coincidentally Amazon or Paypal customers. These companies are not the source of the stolen credit card numbers. There are people who have reported the crime who have not used their cc online, or have never bought from any of the companies mentioned. -- Give generously to the Red Cross Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund |

Wow Macgyver07, thanks for posting, if your line quotation is accurate then this scam has been elevated to a new and far more dangerous level. Up until now, I have not seen a post that describes an "on line" ACH transaction, all have been "off line" card not present type, merchant billing via the MC/Visa etc. system, even with debit cards.
Unless they are spoofing the type of transaction, which I doubt, in your case it appears to have been processed as an EFT "Electronic Funds Transfer". The above description indicates a Point of Sale cash withdrawal directly from your account, the money was removed at that time. It may or may not have required the use of a valid pin #, check with the bank. These scammers may have now set up a POS/ATM operation, as they are processed "on line" through a different system than credit type transactions. It is now possible that debit accounts are now being segregated, and subject to additional fraud via their increased inherent vulnerabilities.
That action puts you at an immediate risk for further fraud, by continuously withdrawing electronically all the remaining funds in your account via EFT. If you have other deposit accounts at that institution, and depending on your banks overdraft policy, it is possible for the criminals to overdraw that account also. Thereby putting a hold on those funds, until the issue is resolved.
You need to contact your bank immediately and have your account frozen, or at least prevent, and/or reject any more EFT transactions, including overdraft, and make arrangements for any outstanding legitimate transactions. Also, your reporting obligations and Rights are different in respect to this. THE ELECTRONIC FUND TRANSFER ACT lists the regulations governing that transaction. In EFT cases you have to chase after your money as it has already transferred out of the account.
I would appreciate an update,

I sincerely hope I'm correct! |

Maybe the offline system processing is now rejecting these scammers, and they are switching to "online" EFT transactions with debit cards, Interesting !!

Include me in, too! I just found a $24.99 charge for Digital Age on 10/12, plus a $0.49 charge by the bank for paying Cyprus from my bank account/debit card. Frightening!

| I found out today that i was charged:
Oct 9 DIGITAL AGE 888-529-98 CYPRUS $24.99
I have a Bank of America Visa. I called BA and the fraud guy said that their computer system was down for mainainence and would not be back up until Tue. So i have to wait and file a report then (unless i wanted to do it by mail). I'm pretty sure he knows whats up, but they aren't straight up about it, if you know what i mean. They are going to look really bad if its a breach on their end.
Anyway, i'm in Tallahassee,FL and i do use this card online including Amazon.com which i just did a purchase. Also, this card is registered with PayPal. I wil be sure to get a new card on Tues. when their computers are up. Actually, i'll likely call Monday. |

I got scammed also 10/3. To make matters worse my bank is not being helpful. They refuse to believe I didn't make the charge. What bank is this? I'd like to know so that I never do business with them. |

| reply to Doctor Olds Count me in too! Got hit on 9/15 on our MBNA mastercard and on 9/28 on our BoA visa. Just opened the bills today and a quick google search brought me here.
Bank of America tried to play dumb, "Did I buy any software?", etc. but when I told them I had received this on two separate cards and had already googled the issue he dropped the act, credited my account and marked the transaction as in dispute. He did say to keep an eye out in case the disputed charge reappears in a month (sounds like a software glitch). Neither company offered to replace the card of course. |
