On 1/11/2006 my boss's card (used only for business and the card itself stays in a locked box!) was charged $9.95 by "KC SOFTWARECOM LLC 509-4611566 NY." Called the telephone number on the charge, got a message machine which did not identify itself, and left a message regarding "erroneous charge on my card." .........So it's still happening in 2006, only now from New York. I called the credit card company, explained, and the rep immediately gave me a credit and said she was sending the charge back to the "merchant." Guess I have to get my boss a card with a new number!
Absolutely, get the card cancelled and re issued ASAP. I am glad that you didn't leave info on the machine to enable them to issue a credit. That saves the scammers money, chargebacks cost them. You may want to read the "Where are they now thread" »Credit card criminals Devbill have a new home !!! for the latest update.

Thinking about the message machine more, I googled the phone number and found this and another website dealing with scam charges and found the KC Software situation described in detail, on a play-by-play basis. So it's still happening in 2006, only now from New York. I called the credit card company, explained, and the rep immediately gave me a credit and said she was sending the charge back to the "merchant." I am also a victim of the Digital Age charge, that was charged to my Amazon.com credit card, which happened to be my Visa check card for the 24.99 dated the 10/02/05. Cancelled card with my bank and signed the fraud list mentioned.

Ah, communications.

I don't know how credit card companies work, other than not very well. But I can tell you that Mastercard shut these folks down on the 12th of October. It seems reasonable that not every rep is told about every fraud, but you would think that there would be a handy database that they could key the name in and find out.

I would tell them that this is a known fraud, that mastercard security is aware of it, and that they need to deal with this, not you. You and I pay a hell of a lot for credit card services and we ought to be getting them.

I just realized that I said it was a Chase card; it was actually a Shell Citi card. Sorry, Chase!

I got 10/10 DIGITAL AGE 888-529-98 CYPRUS SWE 24.99
on my Chase Mastercard, which I use for everything online, so I couldn't even begin to tell you where to look. I remember Newegg.com, amazon, probably ebay, PayPal, who knows what else?

The first Chase representative emphasized again and again that I should ask my husband if he knew anything about the charge, and even said it's probably not a fraud because it's so small! I said I've been fraudulently charged before by someone who just did a little on everyone's card. When I called back after finding that hundreds of others have had the same fraudulent charge, the next representative happily cancelled the #, but pretended to know nothing about Digital Age, and said she'd be mailing an affidavit for me to fill out and have notorized. Now that I know the extent of this scam, it's *outrageous* that I should have to do ANYthing, when they know that it's a documented fraud.

The merchant account is in Sweden. The perpetrators are apparently in Cyprus, but maybe not. After the money was received into the crook's account at the merchant bank he took it out as a check or another transfer.

Stopped (by mastercard) on October 12. Don't know is they were caught or not. They were only around for about a month.

We recently had a charge on our credit card account from Digital Age, in Cyprus, Sweden, with the partial phone # of 888-529-98. Our credit card company notified us of this transaction before we had received our statement.

Wouldn't this be easy to trace? Where is the electronic funds transfer being deposited? In the United States?
Sweden?

In addition to Mordy's usual good advice, you could also point out that Mastercard has investigated and suspended their merchant account as of the 12 of October.

You are right, it's a terrible idea, and it is absolute nonsense that they need to investigate...this thing has been going on quite long enough and there is so much documentation on this that the excuse of investigating this is just crap.

Call them back and insist immediately on getting a new card, or just cancel it yourself and find another bank that won't screw with you.

I got nailed by Digital Age as well for $24.99 on 10-06-05. I am disputing it and tried to get my credit card company to cancel the card but they told me to wait until they investigate it. I don't think that is a good idea.

Readers,

We at Digital Age Products are aware of this problem as reported in this forum, as we have been fielding and responding to over 300 calls and e-mails for over five weeks now by cardholders making the same claims.

As we are not the same Digital Age that is being mentioned in this forum, but also a victim of this fraud, here is what you need to know (and what we have discovered by our own research):

-- The charge on your credit or debit card is not from us, Digital Age Products. And you are not in our database for any purchases. We do not know, or have your credit card number or any of your personal information.
-- This charge is coming from a European merchant in the country of Cyprus. Through our own research, we have identified the merchant’s acquiring bank as SEB / Euroline of Sweden (»www.euroline.se/ or »swp2.vv.sebank.se/cgi-bin/pts3/p···lish.asp). As of October 12th, SEB has told us they have closed the merchant’s credit card processing down. SEB told us that they processed charges on this account from the beginning of September of 2005.
-- If you check your statement it says something like: Digital Age 8885298 Cyprus (all card holders who have called or e-mailed us have a similar number on their statement). MasterCard has informed us the full telephone number is 888-529-9842. THIS IS NOT DIGITAL AGE PRODUCTS’ TELEPHONE NUMBER. If you call this number, there will be a voicemail that will direct you to a web site: »www.da-support.com. FOR YOUR OWN SAFTEY, DO NOT FILL OUT ANY INFORMATION ON THIS WEB SITE.
-- Cardholders that have contacted us, have all had the same charge of $24.99
-- The cardholder has usually looked up the name Digital Age on the Internet and found our web site (sometime this has been done by your bank for you). Our name is Digital Age Products. Not Digital Age. And from our research, the merchant has been using the web domain »www.da-support.com.
-- You should know that we have checked the following systems of our online store (we brand audio products for MP3 players and computers):

-Our credit card processor and their fraud division
-Our own bank and the charges that flow through our account
-Our online e-commerce partner who handles our shopping cart and hosts our web site
-Our own sales history and inventory

All of these show up negative, and there is no sign or trace that this is coming from our systems, or that these systems have been violated. You should also know that the amount charged does not correlate with any products we sell and the shipping charges that may be incurred.

Finally, we have reported and filed a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC) regarding these incidents and reports from cardholders.

We are empathetic with your problem. You need to contact your credit card company, bank or credit union and deny the charge. We would also suggest that you may want to have the card cancelled as it has been compromised. We have no idea where all these names and credit card numbers have come from, although all the people that have contacted us have been American cardholders.

To this day, we have still been handling calls and e-mails, and according to the Swedish acquiring bank SEB, this will probably go on for up to four months, even with the “CYPRUS” merchant’s card processing being closed down on October 12th. If you have charges from this merchant after that date, we suggest you contact us, and we will help funnel this information to MasterCard and Visa.

Thank you. If you have any other questions or comments, please e-mail us at info@digitalageproducts.com.

Regards,
Customer Support

I just checked my bank account and I was charged on 9/17 for $24.99 by DIGITAL AGE 888-52. I have a Visa debit card backed by TCF Express. I'm going to call the bank tomorrow and I'll let you all know the results.
