| Reccomend an old man some good single player games
I have been out of the PC gaming scene for about 3 years, my last computer was a PIII 1ghz system, so now I have a capable rig, but I don't know what good games I have missed. We have a few local stores that have tons of games in their SALE bin. I have played a few multiplayer games, but I have been dissapointed with the amount of cheaters and unsportsmanlike attitude most people have. Right now I have on my system HL2: Finished it, but it has little to no replay value for me. CS:S is fun, but the clan I play in only plays on weekend nights.
Diablo II: Took me a while to get going, but I finally got the whole RPG concept. I am going to go see if I can get Diablo I this weekend.
GTAIII. Need to find the play disc or i'm screwed. I also have GTA:SA on the Xbox, which I got for free(intresting story) but it looks like it is more fun on the PC.
Halo: beat this hundreds of times, uninstalled it a few weeks ago.
Descent III. This is my favorite game right now, I have the speaklers turned up and the bass at max.
Guild Wars: Bought this at the advice of a friend, but I can't get into the whole MMORPG thing, so I am selling it. |

Civ 2 and 3...Civ 4 is coming out sometime late October/early November.
I'm hooked on Civ 3 right now and the game has a lot of replayability because you have a bunch of different civilzations to pick from, there are several different ways of beating the game (Cultural Victory, Military Domination, Expansionist Domination, Political Victory...etc)
The game is a turn based strategy game which can make it a bit slow, but you can disable a significant number of animations to speed it up quite a bit. It's very similar to risk with a lot more dimentions to it. -- Stupidity, like hydrogen, is one of the basic building blocks of the Universe. I'm re-moo-ing!!! My Gallery * My Journal |

If you have any interest at all in Star Wars you should get Knights of the Old Republic. An outstanding game. |

| reply to Iridium I remember back when Best buy was selling Alienware PCs. tjhere was a FPS shooter they were demoing, it looked like CS, but you controlled 5 or 6 people and you could switch back between them. Anyone know this game? Besides the gfx, what differences are there between BF1942 and BF2? |

Being another kinda old man:( Have done quiet a few games and still a member of a clan;) Since Half Life 2 came out and the great reviews it had, i installed steam. Never looked back:D Since done Half life, Blue Shift and now running opposing force. Luvving it and i reckon you would too.
I enjoy doing single player games as much as MP but with steam u get both worlds and a great choice for i reckon a bargain price.
Hope that helps, just my 2 cents;) -- Intel P4-3Ghz / D875PBZ /2048 DDR /Asus V9999 Ultra Deluxe / 160Gb Seagate Barracude Raid array 0 / DMX6 Fire/ WinXP Pro SP2. |

| reply to Iridium Pick up a copy of PC Gamer (or click the link and get a Free Trial from their site). Each DVD, seems like they switched from CDs a few months back, comes with their data base of past reviews. Go through those and pick out themes you're interested in. Anything with a 75% or higher should be worth the money.
The Worms games are always highly rated, I haven't played any of them yet.
The Splinter Cell series is good.
Far Cry is great, but starts to drag in the middle, you never think you're going to finish.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay - Developer's Cut is pretty good.
You don't really mention what kind of games you're interested in. Seems like you lean towards first person shooters. -- I have two favorite sports teams, University of Michigan and whoever is playing Michigan State. |
