[Help] Can't install NAV 2005

NAV/NSW 2005 Error
VirusList.zip 5,344 bytes
VirusTotal.com Results
(VirusList.doc)

I get the above error when trying to install NSW Premium 2005 and NAV 2005. I have win xp pro sp2, and I just had the "Setup.exe" virus from a p2p proggy.

Symantec gives the virus details here:
»securityresponse.symantec.com/av···a.c.html

I went through and did the stuff that I could find. But it still gives me the same problem.

I sent the "Setup.exe" file to virustotal.com and gave me some results that I put in the word file.

That is what happens when you "share" an antivirus program. I would recommend shelling out a few bucks for real protection or try one of the many free version antivirus programs out there.

Never said I was dowloading NAV.

Anyway...Ran spybot, both free Symantec online scanning utilities. Found some files - deleted them.

---at this point still can't install NAV---

Also I got file: "C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\WINUPDATES.EXE-1BCE18F6.pf" when I searched for "winupdates" in windows search (name of one of virus's files) Should I delete this?

I looked through the FAQ and I have done all the stuff that applies.

Edit: Just ran Ad-Aware - still no luck.

Anyway to see where installation get's stuck? It says "Registering Product"

I get that error sometimes. If you had NAV 2005 already installed and then uninstalled it, for some reason. The program still leaves parts around and does not let it reinstall again. I usually run Tuneup and clean the registry and the using a file manager delete the folders. Reboot the computer and now try installing NAV 2005 it usually works for me.

When you install NAV and get this error again, do NOT continue . Go to %temp% (run %temp% will take you there) and view the NAV install log (the newest one that just happened). See what the ending of the log says. Maybe clues.

Try some of the Norton removal-tools »service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ts···039?Open & for files/folder deletion try »ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/#download.:)

I tried the first norton removal tool, and the installer did go farther but gave me the same error a little later. Seems like symantec installer can't write something. I'm going to now run the next three removal tools and use TuneUp 2004 "1-click" feature.

I'm not sure how to use the unlocker though.

Last thing, this is very curious. I went to Symantec registry folder and found that I cannot delete it manually. It also doesn't show and keys or things under it...until I set permissions for myself and create a new key on the right side. ONLY THEN, do the things inside of the Symantec key show up in the left pane and then I can delete them. Weird, I always could delete reg keys without problems before.

Again, thanks for all you help, we're definitely making progress!

Unlocker you just install, you then simply rightclick on the Norton/Symantec files/folders you wish to delete and choose Unlocker + action, all there is to it.

Just remember everytime you try to install a new load Norton stuff is placed on your pc. So you have to run all Norton tools again and TuneUp 2004. It may be a good idea to run the Norton tools in safemode.

yesssssssssssss!

here's what I did:
ran the tool's on Symantec's site in the order on the page

ran tuneup 2004 (without checking for temporary files)

also, though it proabably doesn't matter, changed login screen with tuneup

then, right before installing NAV, I ran tools 2,3, and 4 on the website up top and didn't restart the computer even though they say to do it

you guys are so amazing!!! thanks a million and one
