Re: Speed tests and Burst Speeds

It's "normal" as of about 2-3 months ago (maybe longer). They're most noticeable (I think) in the Speakeasy speedtests where I have seen it spike as high as 18Mb. -- Search the old Summer 2005 Upgrade threads all of which are list in the first post of this thread: »Comcast Summer 2005 Speed Upgrade Discussion #6

I'm experiencing the same issues, also in Atlanta. It will start at 2MBps, then go down to 1.5MBps, and then 1MBps, and eventually around 750KBps.

You should see a download start real fast for about 5-7secs or so and decrease to your cap and stay steady. If you are seeing it wobble up and down between 2-10Mbps that isn't very normal.

I am curious if my results with speed tests and burst speeds are the norm.

When I test my downloads speeds with Speakeasy (Atlanta & Washington specifically) the test begins with a very high reading (20000 to 17000) and immediately begin to decrease. The red progress ball actually stops (two or three times) each time there is a sizable decrease in speed.

While monitoring a large download with Netpersec I notice the speeds are no longer at a consistent level during the download. Generally they cycle up and down from as high as 10Mbs to as low as 2Mbs. During this time the Windows download progress indicator displays fairly consistent download speeds.

Are these results normal for a area where speed bursting has been implemented?
