As much as I dislike Apple, this doesn't really seem like a new news item. I post a bit in the WoW tech forums, and every time a new version is out there's a huge influx of "oh my god I started the game and my pc exploded" or "I started WoW and then my computer blue screened me" or "all the lights on my router turn on and I can't access the internet when I start wow". Seems to go for pretty much any software, and 99% of the time it's something on the user's end- bad power supply, old video card drivers, or a really crappily designed router. The possibilities are endless. I doubt many of the problems users are having with iTunes 5 is a problem with Apple's software. -- "True warriors do not follow paths, they make them. | I don't see it as a news item either. Problem is Apple's die hard fans portray Apple as perfect, so anytime Apple has any small misstep it gets plastered all over the news so as to rub it in their faces. You should see the OS X security update patch threads, lol. |

| Dude the only problem is your internet connection. Apple and anyone in their right mind for that matter would never have a corrupt file available for download. The file sent to you was fine up until some faulty point in the transfer where it became corrupt. Chances are this faulty point is either somewhere within your house (if you have dial-up) or between your modem and your computer (if you have broadband). Unless iTunes is also your ISP or the name of your modem, you're barking up the wrong tree.
BTW if you've had problems with corrupt files before you might want to check out »/linequality |

| I had no problem on my Laptop, but the desktop stated that the file was corrupt, until I Removed Quicktime 7.0.xBeta, and was then able to install with no problems. -- One man's customer loyalty is another man's misguided arrogance. |

| reply to Tsume Oh how nice to be smug.yes i'm a total f*****g moron who knows nothing about computers and so it's obviously it's all my fault, because your system is fine. have you looked at the Apple forums? There are hundreds of people out there extremely pissed that Apple realesed this piece of shit , badly Beta-tested version that is un-uninstallable, un-rollbackable (good word) and hijacks music that is paid for and unplayable except on Itunes.Plus totally screws up your PC. |

Since installing iTunes, my computer has been completely hosed up. The system crashes about one minute after I log into windows and reboots automatically. I can't uninstall iTunes from safe mode because it says the MSIINSTALLER is not working. What the hell am I supposed to do?! Well, I know there are things I can do, yet this is unacceptable. If I had purchased music through iTunes I would REALLY have reason to be pissed off. |

| except you can't upload the tracks from you're ipod officially, and yes i know there are a zillion unofficial programs to let you do this, but what do you do when you can't open Itunes, or uninstall it, but it still pops up whenever you plug you're ipod in, and then tries to synchronize.... i.e because itunes thinks it has no music in it, it tries to wipe all your music from your ipod. Nice. Oh, and you can't turn autoupdate off because you can't access itunes normally. |

Nice. Oh, and you can't turn autoupdate off because you can't access itunes normally. iTunes isn't the only music software that handles it like this. Every DRM enabled player has some restrictions on it, no need to single iTunes out. If your only backup is what is on your iPod then losing all of your purchased music is inevitable. You need to practice what Apple has been preaching with iTunes. Backup, backup, backup. It takes you all of 2 minutes to burn a cd or dvd with all your store bought music on it. -- Computer keyboards are very sensitive. You do not need to apply a lot of pressure. Nice. Oh, and you can't turn autoupdate off because you can't access itunes normally. Presumably you would fix the iTunes issue before doing some less than intelligent thing like plug in the iPod to sync with a broken application. Or use another computer. iTunes 5.0.1 is out to fix some issues but there are also a lot of people who haven't run into what you describe. Another way to copy the music without a third party application in windows is to simply open up the iPod in explorer and drag out the files from your music folder. You won't get the meta data but you'll have the music. If you move to another PeeCee then all you need to do is register that machine to play the ITMS bought songs. AND... as with any data there is no excuse to a lack of a good backup plan.
If it happened to me I would be upset too but at some point I have to ask what could I do to safeguard my investment. |

| Well for those who are interested, i did have my music backed on a Firewire drive, but that decided to go down too. So, the reason i plugged my ipod into my PC was in an attempt to backup it up onto yet another drive, using the third party software. This ,by the way won't let me upload my paid-for music, and i can't open Ipod in Explorer, presuambly because it was set to auto-update and not "use as a hard-drive".

I'm not sure what third party software you are using? Is it Jhymn? The inability to open in Explorer is normal, but there is software out there that will let you use it like another hard drive (for the Apple and Windows).
Again, paid for music should be backed up without any trouble with the built in burn disc function. -- Computer keyboards are very sensitive. You do not need to apply a lot of pressure. Banging the keys only serves to wear out your keyboard and you. |

| reply to Pictor Guy I did pay for iTunes songs -- and plenty of them. No, I hadn't yet put then onto a player because I don't have one yet. I am somewhat computer savvy--when I was asked to upgrade as I had done before I did not see anticipate the ensuing crap-storm and I am just waiting for Apple to develop a fix that lasts long enough for me to save these files to a disc or another format if this is even still possible. |
